Judicial news from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

A family in Saudi Arabia is taking a “genie” to court, accusing it of theft and harassment, reports say.

They accuse the spirit of threatening them, throwing stones and stealing mobile phones, Al Watan newspaper said.

The family have lived in the same house near the city of Medina for 15 years but say they only recently became aware of the spirit. They have now moved out.

A local court is investigating. In Islamic theology, genies are spirits that can harass or possess humans.

  • Would the genie have the right (rite?) to habeus spiritus if wrongfully convicted? Should the court limit witnesses to those trapped in the material world, or should the genie be able to summon ginns etc for witnesses on his behalf? Magic is probably restricted in the KSA, doesn’t this keep the poor genie’s magician, advocate, lawyer, from obtaining the full cooperation of the accused in his defense? How can the judge be neutral? A ruling in favor of a criminal genie could be rewarding in the short term. Just as a ruling against could result in missing items and mysterious ailments.
Obviously, a travesty of justice no matter which way the verdict goes.

The Common Law does have the advantage of preventing this sort of thing- it would be difficult indeed to sit a jury of his peers for the trial of a member of the class: genie.

All of you dirty kuffars listen up. Mohamhead (PBUH) said don’t wipe your a** with old bones because the jinn use old bones to live in. Mohamhead said it, that settles it, because Mohamhead was the perfect man, the excellent model. He said that, too, that’s how I know he was the perfect man, the excellent model.

So given that the jinn are pissed off at this family, I think it’s pretty clear why their toilet paper bill has been so low.

Fundamentalist Muslims teaming up with lawyers to redress their grievances?

Now there’s a truly terrifying image.

No wonder my golf game sucks. It’s the genie’s fault.

  • Plot twist for an “I Dream of Jeannie” TV episode rerun?

  • No doubt the National Enquirer is all over this by now…

    I can see the headline:

DJINNI STOLE OUR PHONES AND OUR HOUSE.

Inquiring minds want to know: is the Moth-Man involved!?
