Maybe next year, and a hat tip to occasional reader Jason for pointing me to FlightBlogger.

Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

As I’ve written elsewhere, if you’ve never been you just can’t quite comprehend it. All the stills, videos, and stories just can’t quite capture just how expansive it is.
Everyone should go at least once, then you will know….
Sorta like standing in Charleston after Hugo, even having seen the news from the beach about 2NM away from anchorage.
I bet…I bet.
What an array of history! Caught a glimpse of a Mosquito…I’d love to see the real thing one day.
You know… I’m supposed to get 5 weeks vacation a year…
Every year it’s the BEST airshow in the world. I’ve been to Paris, I’ve been to Farnborough, I’ve been to Singapore, I even attened the first (and last) annual San Diego Air Show. None of them hold a candle to Oshkosh.
There’s thousands of aircraft, tens of thousands of the best people in the world (aviation enthusiasts) and a seemingly non-stop aerial circus going on right over your head.
It’s a fantastic experience.
There be Thunder Buckeye’s! I miss the flying bath tub.
I think I’ll have to through ten bucks in the tip jar designated for the “get Lex to Oahkosh in 2010″ fund. After that passage is assured it will be time to start the “beer at Oshkosh” allowance fund….
Damn… I must get there one of these years!
Hey, Satch — get your checkbook out. Those longings can be requited.
Lex — go big, or go home? Bring back memories?
Every year the Exhibit area keeps getting better & better, from General Aviation to Government agencies, there is a lot to take in. For this alone, you’d need more than a day to cover the exhibits well – especially if you are in a buying mood.
A big thrill for me is usually seeing the warbirds flight line as well as the extended war bird shows. This year the warbird shows were definitely more limited than in years past. I went on Friday for the extended show and was surprised that not one B-17 made a fly by. None appeared to be parked on the field either. I also did not see the “Reno Racer” Warbirds such as the F2G-1D Super Corsair which have been there in the past – those things are awesome. The warbirds that did fly seemed to have an abbreviated show as compared to previous years, again perhaps the economy to blame or other factors unknown to me. I hope this year’s observation by me is not a trend.
Keep ‘em Flying!
Now that all is right in the world (West Point holds its rightful place in the pantheon of higher education) consider the “Lex to Oshkosh 2010″ jar tipped
Chris, A B-17 made a fly by on Thursday.
No easy way to describe the Airventure experience but the video came close. Total immersion in all things aviation. Two full days wasn’t enough to spend time with a few hundred thousand airplane fans. There were also more than 10 scheduled activities, events, speakers per hour through most of the week.
It was a blast.
That was awesome!
Plenty o’ excitement for this lucky pilot:

Still a rich man’s game. Maybe after the last youngun finally graduates I can at least upgrade from a rental Lance and make the trip in proper fashion – either a T-28C or a Stearman with the 450 hp up front. Of course, when Lex finishes “Rhythms” and has his signing up there, the crowds will double. Hope they can handle.
Threadjack (with good reason)
FYI: CAPT. Scott Speicher Memorial, for personel in the JAX NAS area:
Shipmates,
As I’m sure most of you are aware, the return of Fallen Hero CAPT Michael “Scott” Speicher will occur this week. The latest plan is as follows: CAPT Speicher’s remains will arrive at NAS Jacksonville on Thursday at 1500. The remains will then be transferred to the NAS Jacksonville All Saints Chapel where they will lay in repose until 0900 Friday. All personnel with base access will be allowed to pay their respects at the Chapel from 1630 Thursday until 0700 Friday. This will not be open to the general public. National and local media will be present throughout.
As we have done for all our Fallen Heroes, respectfully request your assistance in lining the roads to honor CAPT Speicher and his family. This one is going to be different as a result of the route and will occur on both days. On Thursday, respectfully request that you line the roads from Yorktown and then down Mustin to the Chapel. Those personnel that previously lined Yorktown WEST of Mustin (VP-30/Hangar 511, etc) are now requested to line Mustin down to the Chapel instead. On Friday, respectfully request that you line the roads from Mustin to Yorktown towards the main gate. Those personnel that previously lined Yorktown EAST of Mustin (FRCSE/FISC/Air Ops, Etc) are now requested to line Mustin down to the Chapel instead. Bottom line is please fill in on Mustin and Yorktown as required.
This is once again an opportunity to honor a Fallen Navy Hero and show a grieving family that they are not alone and that the men and women of NAS Jacksonville stand behind them.
Once again, appropriate honors is to salute the Hearst as it drives by. Non military would place their hand over their heart. Security will also be closing all roads/parking lots throughout the route on both days as the procession departs so you may want to alert your personnel to avoid departing around the time of the procession. If there are any changes to the times or routes, I will update you. Thank you all once again for your amazing support!

The Fairchild 24 (the red aircraft in the title frame) is such a lovely machine.
The music was nice, but think I would have preferred the engine sounds, especially on the fly bys. Nice vid though.
A little off topic, but related-
The Reno Air Races are coming up soon-
Sept 16-20-the Blues are there this year.
