The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Relocating?Military members find information on homes for military by visiting Military Homes.com For the Effort!Subscribe![]() Tagsafghanistan AGW Araby army Blogging buffoonery china culture economy Flying Friday Musings geopol GWOT Headlines health care History iran iraq issues Media Memory Lane Military Navy norks Oz pakistan piracy politicians politics Politics and Culture pundits Russia science seals sea stories silliness Small Stuff SoCal sport technology UAVs UK usaf usmc weapons WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. |

The chance to “get some” in a fair fight (well not really fair, since it’s the USMC versus whatever comes their way) is all that it takes to motivate a Marine.
A fellow a year or so ahead of me in law school won a Silver Star in Viet Nam (he was a lieutenant at the time) for leaping out of an APC or similar squad vehicle under heavy waving a .45 and yelling “Let’s go, we’re Marines”. The State Bar might have wanted to reject him for lack of prudence, but he wound up as retired USMC general–and one of the leading lawyers in San Diego.
The Imperial German Army knew what they faced: devil dogs, the hounds of hell. The enemy you didn’t want to face.
Ninety years later, not much has changed from the enemy’s point of view.
These dudes are really into this stuff, man.
heh. Was warming up my wannabe Marine today after work with a little “combined arms” — AR15 .223 and Model 70 .270. Father/Son range day. Good times. Had him dialing in the irons on the AR15 build (front post bottomed and still need more elevation — need to get busy with a file). Then introduced him to the new (old — pre-64) .270 that I got for to be his primary hunting rifle a while back.
He’s outta here Sunday to the Bay Area for NROTC kickoff and swearing in.
Came across this today. Marines sleeping after 8 hr. firefight- hits you hard:

Thanks for the post, b2. Not enough of it ever makes the MSM–as if we should wonder why….
