You know Casey, OGH is a fine gentleman and he has my respect. Let me pose you a little poser and you answer as honestly as you know how.
18 years ago an 11 year girl on her way to school was kidnapped by a man and woman and they held her prisoner and one of the raped her at least twice and she turned up alive and there is much rejoicing. I would instantly kill both of those kidnappers without remorse.
In 1969, 40 years ago, Ted Kennedy by deliberate action killed a young woman.
So the question for you is, who is the worst demon in human form? Was it the one who killed or the rapist who let his victims live?
Backup question: what would you do with the rapist now that he has been arrested? Elect him to the Senate as representative for the great state of California?

Raogden,
I myself care little what people think of me. Color me a democrat. How many of us did not rejoice at the passing of Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, Mao, Khomeni, Castro, Chavez, etc. These deaths are something to look forward to, embrace and enjoy for they denote the passing of a great evil just like Pol Pot or Noam Chomsky or John Kerry.

Honestly, I consider the loss of Ted Kennedy right up there with the loss of Sauron. Of course one of those was evil and the other a fictional character. 47 years that man was in the senate. Consider what that means. He was party to the utter destruction of the black family. He believed so strongly in eugenics and the destruction of minorities that he backed abortion justices in spite of his putative religion. I'd go on but for me it really boils down to the fact that he ran away worse than a coward from a girl he drowned when he could have saved her.
I said it all to his face while he lived why would I hesitate to bid him good riddance after he died?

Wish I could be there too, Major. As I also commented, I have a cousin who is a retired Marine Major who works for the Navigators and also lives in Escondido. I admit, I have absolutely no idea how big Escondido may be, nor how many Marines there are in that area. His name is John V., I'm sure you can find him...

He and I went through Pensacola together, only he was the GIB. He spent 9+ years in Moscow, Russia working for Navigators on a ministry to Russian Military and is now in demand as a speaker around the country. Many, many stories... and quite an interesting Christian!

Escondido, Major? I have a cousin, a retired Marine Corps. Major, who lives there. He works with the Navigators in a ministry to the new young Marines going off to War. Perhaps you've come across him in your travels... John V.

I'd be in the front row too, however, the Puget Sound is many-a-mile north of you. I'd love to hear the sermon!

I'll (gratefully) leave judging his heart to God. But as he seemed to give no outward repentance for his more horrifying misdeeds, I cannot lament his passing, beyond the pain it must surely cause those who love him. I have sympathy for them, but no sorrow for his absence from this world.

Maybe there could be a small part of me that would lament his passing on a mere humanity level, but to seem him so lionized and all his manifest immorality and cruelty (constant sexual harrassment--waitress sandwiches, anyone?--unfaithfulness, demagogueing the troops/war, and more) swept under the rug as he is praised as a "great man" gets my back up. The British seem to have a clearer eye about it all: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/26/obituary-ted-kennedy

Perhaps it is a hard-heartedness I didn't know I had. But unless you have been close enough to a man like that to see he is more than that, I don't see any reason to lament his passing or pretend it a loss to humanity.

Thanks ChrisP--I'd totally forgotten in my geezer-like addled state, about the Andropov bit. Worse, when the news of it was belatedly revealed it caused nary a ripple in the MSM and therefore the public at large. Probably one of the single-most appalling but least known examples of treasonous activity since, since, since, well, guess who? His father Joe's pro-Hitler activities in WWII as Ambassador to the Court of St. James. Imagine that? Funny how the proverbial apple doesn't fall far from the tree.....
