Some serious cult o’personality stuff going down in Hollywood. Which is nothing really all that new.
It just doesn’t sell that well in Utah.
“I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama”?
Really? Because I sort of thought he was supposed to be serving the public, not the other way around.
Update: Plagiarism! I suspect Joe Biden’s hand in this…

Actually I thought parts of that video were pretty good. Although I could have added a few more suggestions for them pledge to. Admittedly the dude with bathroom issues was rather strange though. I’m not so sure he’s welcome to use my facilities. And the part about pledging to be service to the President … yeah, that was bizarre. Still at least 90% good content, I think. Not that I would be showing it as is to any school kids. In Utah or elsewhere.
I pledge to never watch that creepy video again!
Ditto on never again.
Nauseating. The Great BHO as the Leader. Please. Orwell here we be.
An Austrian Corporal might take exception at this man’s attempt to claim some history.
I heard her pledge to “be a servant to our President…” not “to be of service.”
Where can I get some of Byron’s Patented Brain Wipes after watching and listening to that leftist infomercial.
They come two shots at a time from a bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin, slice of lime, dash of tonic water, rinse/repeat as necessary till you reach the DGAF state.
The guy who kisses his arms says the ‘be of service’ part. The gal says the servant thing.
I’m with Michelle – it’s pretty good except for the servant part. I don’t have a problem with the be of service line. The slavery part really resonated with me so I guess that’s part of why I am sympathetic with much of what they are trying to do. Shoot, if we could end sex slavery in the U.S. alone we’d be helping out a huge number of people.
You have to wonder where Demi’s keeping all those freed slaves, don’t ya? Gotta be a hundred thousand of ‘em by now…
That said, I’m no politician’s servant. They want something from me, they can damn well justify it.
All hail Pledge Video!?
Okay Hollywood, stop the hypocrisy and just stop being stupid. Not a totally bad message, of course, but they always have to add in the little jabs that push it over the top.
I too, pledge to never watch this creepy video again! (thx Guy C.)
You guys are overreacting. This will turn out just fine.
When the indocrinators in residence drew up these lesson plans (What do you believe are the challenges of your generation? How can you be a part of addressing these challenges?), I’m betting they didn’t leave room for a kid to respond “Privatizing Social Security to preserve it for my generation”, or “Building a missle shield to protect us from rogue tyrrants.”, or “I can join the Marine Corps to defend our nation.” What the dickens do those questions have to do with inspiring kids to take their education seriously?
But the good news is, the same IT mavens that built the Cash for Clunkers network are doing this one as well.
I think the message is good about helping others, volunteering your time, etc…
The fact that it’s all in Obamawrap is beyond nauseating, bordering on something far more sinister. Indoctrination isn’t pretty – even if it’s delivered by pretty people.
I pledge to get those responsible fired and tie up every spare dime in a painful law suit if I find out that this video has been/will be shown in my kids’ schools.
Anybody recall that before WWII the German armed forces pledge of allegiance was modified so that the troops pledged to hitler rather than the nation? First comes the cult of personality, then comes the pledge, then comes …
Have we heard much of anything from the cabinet officers lately? All I hear about are czars, who do not have to go through a senate confirmation process. And these czars don’t appear to like the US.
And where did that 1000+ page health care reform bill come from? There was no time for it to be written in the 3 months before it was offered up. It was mostly crafted before the election.
Remember the line: “We are the ones we have been waiting for!”
I am very worried that not only “it CAN happen here” but that I am seeing it happen before my very eyes.
Those czars scare me almost as much as P.BO does. No oversight, personal appointments – and none of them has a background that instills confidence or comfort.
Why would you want these czars to go through the confirmation process? What could there possibly be in their pasts to cause concern? Why should you be worried by an avoidance of the Senate’s constitutional responsibilities? You should just trust.
And here is yet more evidence that these czars should concern all of us.
I pledge to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, not follow some cult of personality. Our nation is based on ideals codified in a written document, not following a person and his ideas down some unknown path. Isn’t that how you end up with a dictator? Ref: Castro, Chavez, Hitler, Stalin, Mao…
When will Obama’s personality cult start requiring us to yell “Sieg Heil?” The left remembers nothing and learns nothing.
BTW, Nazism was a leftist ideology, not right wing as the left likes to insist. relative to Lenin and Stalin it was right wing, but not by much. Both were entirely, and profoundly, statist.
A few more from the unconfirmed advisor hall of shame.
And Van, calling the president “Barrack Hussein Obama”, makes you a racist, dontcha know?
Why? He calls himself that when his took his oath of office…Oh, sorry…he get to tell us not to make fun of his ears, either.
Anyone up for http://www.icanhaswaffle.com?
Scott/
I am simply amazed at the depths of your jaded cynicism. Forsooth! “Oh ye of little faith!”
(Get with the program, man, dontcha know “All resistance is futile?” As in: “All Your Base Are Mine!” Or, as, “Frankie say”: “Relax, just do it!” Join the Borg collective, you’ll feel much, much better.)
And Edward and QM are right in target about the blood oath cult of personality thing. Our only saving grace is that the moral sense of confusion many German officers felt who were not Nazis but swore the oath, came from their sense of honor (which itself had deep religious antecedents stemming from the religious based codes of the Medieval Knights) and not wanting to break the oath once given as serving officers and betray that trust.
Given the current state of religion and society I don’t think we have any reason to worry about the majority of the youth of America taking seriously ANY kind of oath–sworn to Obama or anybody for that matter.
It’s the “SERVANT” thing that gets me.
To be HIS “SERVANT?’ WTF!!!! Is that what the signers to the Declaration of Independence thought their relationship was to King George III ???!!!! And really, that visual at the end of everyone in their own squares in a larger square–that IS the vision of the Borg collective. And notice the pixils representing flesh and blood American citizens dissolve into Obama’s CHEEK, for chrissake! Into his very BODY! As in: “It’s Obama’s world, we just live in it THRU HIM! GAAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, the servant thing was, well, expected. I mean, for a Constitutional scholar, he sure doesn’t know much about it. It’s right up there with the woman said he is “ready to RULE”
But I got off the tracks at the very beginning with “They say the job of President is the loneliest job in the world”.
I am sure it is.
Do I get the impression that his “followers” may think he is not be up to the job? I mean, I didn’t see them volunteering to help W with AIDS in Africa or education here at home or helping the troops or……well, you get the idea.
Maybe his Olyness needs the help.
By the way, who commissioned, produced and paid for this ad?
One more thing…
Remember the unspent TARP $$? Unspent, despite the “shovels ready” statements.
But the 2010 elections are coming up. Guess when the Chicago-style largess will be distributed — all half trillion of it.
Now that they can tap the treasury, they don’t need to continue going to Soros for money.
I believe that I saw this piece of clap trap–or something very similar to it–in the campaign last year. Now just between us friends, I have never given so much as a flying buffalo chip about a Hollywood endorsement. I live out here in the land of the self absorbed navel gazers. Sean Penn, our erstwhile Secretary of State, didn’t even graduate from high school. So I’m supposed to take his opinion into account? I mean the slacker dude can’t even organize a 3 person motorboat (he was sinking 5 feet from the dock when he went out to “rescue” Katrina victims).
Having watched it–or version #1–last year, I don’t want to waste my time looking at a replay or at version #2. I pledge allegiance to the United States of America–and most definitely not to whoever is in the White House at this particular time–whether it’s Abe Lincoln, FDR, Ike, Reagan, the “evil” Boosh, or the New Messiah. I am an American, and not a servant of the President.
I agree, Michelle, that 90% of the ideas are good. As the others here have already pointed out, as QM has, it’s the “personality cult” aspect that puts this video on edge.
JFK asked, “What can we do for our country?”… not for servants, kissing ones arms in the name of BO! That’s just sick!
Mike Myers, you’re absolutely right: “I Pledge Allegiance to the United States of America!” That’s it, no plastic bags, trees or hybrid cars! We pledge our allegiance to the country… NOT a person!!!
JFK asked, “What can we do for our country?”…
Not to nit-pick, but IIRC what he said was “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I think that’s significant. First, because the left seems to ask the country to do a lot for them and others and seems to ask what they can do for their country very, very little. They spend most of their time classifying people into groups that are owed things because those groups are “oppressed”. They seem actively hostile at times to the idea that they should owe anything to any entity encompassing the very concept of “country”.
Second, as aforementioned, because you’ll note that even though Kennnedy was noted for his charisma, probably more so even more than President Obama, asked people to serve the country, not himself.
You know this reminds me. Not everyone I know who is a leftist is someone who refuses to take care of themselves and has lived their entire life off the largesse of others, but everyone I know who refuses to take care of themselves and has lived their entire life off the largesse of others is a leftist.
That observation holds pretty true in my experience also.
BHO’s message is not on the edge, it is WAY over it. The 90% that you like is designed to get the real message (10%) over to your kids.
I hereby swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that I will bear True Faith and Allegiance to the same. I swear that I will follow the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me. So help me God.
Gee. Seems my oath already covered everything Demi and Cameron and all the shallow gals who would rather have their hair done than work to actually help someone said they would do or thought they would do, and then some. Their lives are full of themselves. My life is full of my country’s self, and the defense of everyone in Her.
I don’t see any need to pledge to do anything more than what I pledged 30 years ago, since that oath was good enough to demand my life, no matter who occupied the Office of the President, or whether there was a D or an R after their name. That doesn’t make me better than Hollywood starlets…..
…..just far ahead of their time.
Subsunk
Subsunk/
Yes it does……
I’m not wasting my time watching this BS. When pretentious Hollywood types start telling me what they are going to do to help, well anyone other than themselves, I discount it as the self-serving BS that it is.
I haven’t been so inspired since “Ramones Aid” came out in ‘87.
and one more thing!
About those plastic grocery bags……
We wouldn’t be using them if it weren’t for the eco-nazis screaming about cutting down trees ( a “renewable resource”) years ago and the bottled water thing got started because the same people didn’t trust the water supply to be healthy!
Change my ass…..just shows they don’t think before they act.
my brain hurts.
I’m pretty sure the guy pledging “to be of service” to BHO is Anthony Kiedis if Red Hot Chili Peppers. I guess if he wants to service BHO, he can work that out with Michelle. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Subsunk beat me to it.
I, Anonymous Sailor, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States (even if I didn’t vote for him and don’t agree with the direction in which he’s taking our country) and the orders of the officers appointed over me (even in the unlikelyhood that some of them may be morons), according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
I am not a servant to the president, only the taxpayers. I’d say that sums it up.
What a sack o’ BS
Hey, turns out that according to the teacher union contracts in New York, Boston, LA, Seattle, Buffalo, Eugene, et. al. those cities WON’T BE IN SESSION ON THE DAY OF THE SPEECH? Snort. As per Hot Air that I found on Jules Crittenden.
Iowahawk must be reading this blog: “The Return of the Creepy Obama Kids.”
Sorry, Lex! I tried to embed the Iowahawk video with bad results. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Xy4hNyYFs
