That whole “Iraq is a bad war, Afghanistan is a good war” thing?

That was all just funnin’ around, according to Digby:

The Democrats backed themselves into defending the idea of Afghanistan being The Good War because they felt they needed to prove their macho bonafides they called for withdrawal from Iraq. Nobody asked too many questions sat the time, including me. But none of us should forget that it was a political strategy, not a serious foreign policy.

It was all just a means to an end – sabotage the war effort, sacrifice the troops, suffer national disgrace and leave the Iraqis twisting in the wind was nothing but a way to political power, and single payer health care and so on.

Just don’t, you know: Question anybody’s patriotism.

It was always about politics. Some of the left complain about the war now (there are a few idiots that stand at the Courthouse here in Waynesville, about once a week) but there is very little noise now that the messiah is large and in charge.

Sorry, but gotta admit that sometimes your writing is just BAD for the blood pressure. VX can’t take it. The fact that anyone would put down – in writing – such a cavalier attitude and fret over their perception of “political strategy” within the friendly confines just floors me. Men are dying over their “political strategy”.

    Webster’s new definition of wuss:
“The average Democrat doesn’t like fighting wars. They don’t like using military force. They don’t just dislike collateral damage and civilian casualties and flag-draped coffins; they cringe at the concept of combat with citizens of another country,”

I have one Obama sticker left in the parking lot. Tomorrow it goes. It will hurt, but it goes. I will tell the affected person they can head to Afghan to pick up their free health care. And as I told the highly educated idiot last week – “at some point you are responsible for your decisions in life”.

See, many people see the left as “Anti war”, I don’t buy it. Like Lex said, it takes two to fight.
When was the last time you saw a lefty go to the palistinians and tell them that they have to stop sending rockets into Israel? When was the last time you saw street demonstrations protesting suicide bombers killing civilians? Look at Vietnam, did they EVER demonstrate asking the NVA or VC for peace? Did John Kerry or Traitor Jane ask the N. Vietnamese for peace when they met with them?
Nope. They aren’t anti war, they are anti U.S., anti capitalist, anti democracy. Ask Ayres how peaceful he was. Did they even concern themselves with the collateral damage after South Vietnam fell?
They’ll use military force, not to protect the country but to protect their political objectives.

Exactly. I just spent the last hour writing text designed to motivate donations and participation in a support-the-troops effort. The focus was Afghanistan and how much fighting is going on over there, how much the warfighters need to know that we remember them and that they have our support. In order to write it persuasively, I tried to immerse myself in both my own emotion on the subject as well as the imagined emotion of those doing the actually living and dying in Afghanistan.

To go from that frame of mind to reading this post is a kind of whiplash I’ve never experienced before. It makes both my heart and my stomach ache. To think as that blogger and his fellow travelers apparently do is repulsive. I do not want to hate those who merely have a different ideology, but I find it harder to think of them as anything other than repulsive and immoral.

    Lex,
On September 24, 1759 Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease on a brewery in Dublin. On Thursday they are celebrating their 250th birthday. Just thought you would like to know.

As for the Democrats, this is one of the reasons I left that party. Or as Ronald Reagan said, they left me. They don’t take defense of freedom seriously.

    • What, the lease is only good for another 8750 years?! We better stock up! :-)

Seriously, Lex has driven me to drinking sterno again tonight. Short of the Andromeda Strain hitting my neck of the woods I’m now pretty much assured of being killed by my liver. Guinness just doesn’t seem to do the trick anymore after reading posts like this. (On a similar not related to point of thread note: just recently discovered Alaskan White beer. Highly recommend, I’ve been living a lie up till now.)

  • I’m SHOCKED, SHOCKED to learn that Democrats were lying!!

The Dems care much more about their own power than the Country. They’d better be damn worried then. If on top of everything else we get hit again by Islamists, after 8 years of Bush’s protection, the Dems will be out of power for at least two terms.

      PBT –

Obama’s not nearly done yet. I predicted back in spring ’08 that Obama would win, but would be a one term president causing such enormous damage to the country that the democrats would be the minority party for the next 20 years with zero presidential wins.

I still stand by that statement, but my God the damage that is being done in the process. The left got exactly what it wanted, and it is nothing short of a disaster for the US on pretty much every front.
