Two Year Anniversary

For CNO Gary Roughead. Galrahn likes what he’s seeing.

ADM Gary Roughead took over as CNO under impossible conditions and circumstances on paper, and has executed his plan to put the Navy on a solid footing heading into the second decade of the 21st century. I have no idea what the new administration or the Secretary of Defense thinks of Admiral Gary Roughead as CNO, but I do know one thing: Gary Roughead was handed an impossible situation and has guided the Navy through the minefield to make the future Navy look a lot more possible, and whether one approves or disapproves of how he has done it, or the direction he is steering the ship…

Or has he simply played the hand he’s been dealt and cut his losses before folding?

We’ll see how things go as the budget cuts continue and flight hours/underway times shrink…

At least there are all the new uniforms…

And consider the person who gave him such a disaster got promoted…?

If we as a nation abandon power projection as we seal deals and make friends with the rabid governments on the planet, the need to train expeditionary forces collapses. We’ll be back down to much smaller navy and it would be nice if the people in the business gave serious thought to the actual layup costs for the CVNs and big deck amphibs rather then promptly hauling them out to sea and using them as targets or reefs after the decommission. Start working with Congress to make sure that money gets programmed properly.

Do you think the current leadership will not convert these ships into reefs ASAP?

It’s the only way to prevent the US from unilaterally projecting power across the globe. We gotta be humbled and hobbled, dontcha know.

        BUTCH,
The big deck amphibs will go the reef or target route (fish in a barrel if you ask me) but the CVNs will be a little trickier to get rid of quickly.

No doubt there is right now a leading scientific research liberal progressive think tank that is studying the fastest way of pulling the reactors in the quickest possible manner particularly if that involves inflicting immediate irreparable harm on the ship’s hull or war fighting capabilities following decommissioning. Oops, I meant NAVSEA is doing that, as if there was a difference.

Granted, he has taken positive action on shipbuilding sorely needed. Someone had to. Sure, he’s the man in the ring and all, but I think he understands Naval Aviation as much as I do archeology.

What about those mistakes made in aviation vision (20/200)? And why doesn’t he truncate all the social engineering going on in his name? Too much to ask I reckon.

“Social Engineering” is ALL the Obama Admin is about–first, last and always.
