The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Relocating?Military members find information on homes for military by visiting Military Homes.com For the Effort!Subscribe![]() Tagsafghanistan AGW Araby army Blogging buffoonery china culture economy Flying Friday Musings geopol GWOT Headlines health care History iran iraq issues Media Memory Lane Military Navy norks Oz pakistan piracy politicians politics Politics and Culture pundits Russia science seals sea stories silliness Small Stuff SoCal sport technology UAVs UK usaf usmc weapons WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. |

My son is up in the Nawa district of Helmand province, part of the 1/5 Marines at Camp Jaker. He said the first 4 to 6 weeks were really “hellasous”. Fire fights every day sometimes two or three, never for very long. Sometimes there were dead Taliban, sometimes there is no one there at all. With the temp in the 130’s they drink gallons of water all day but only need to urinate only once a day. They pooled their money and purchased a mule to carry ammo and water when they went on patrol. After 6 weeks of MRE’s I thing they ate the beast, but he would not say for sure. Things have gotten quite, they still patrol every day but they are not getting any contact in their area, only the mines and IED’s that are being buried for them. It was nice to see him on the AC360 show if but only for a few seconds. He looked good, dark though. I guess what little Apache he got from my side of the family has done him well.
BT: Jimmy T sends.
@JimmyT: God willing he has a successful tour and comes home to you. Ex-girlfriend has a son-in-law just rtb’d to 3rd herd in Hawai’i.
How much time has he got left, Jimmy? If he’s got any time left and wants to become a unit sponsor, Anymarinedotcom will let him sign up as a rep. Then we can send over all kinds of gedunk for he and the laddies.
Passdown for all hands: anysoldier – anymarine – anyairman – anysailor dotcom will get you to a site where you can sign up and send care packages to members of specific units in each service. They’ll tell you a bit about themselves, what they’d like to see arrive, and the approximate tour dates. Rich Uncle can get them beans and bullets, but it’s up to us to do the rest. They want/need the contact, and we can give it to them.
