Anniversary Celebration

Anti-regime activists in Tehran chose the 30th anniversary of the US embassy seizure there to take to the streets:

Large crowds of demonstrators gathered in central districts of the capital near the former U.S. embassy, where an annual pro-government rally was also taking place, according to eyewitnesses and video posted on Iranian websites.

Antiriot police on motorcycle and on foot chased the crowd with batons and plain-clothed Basij militia attacked demonstrators with wooden sticks, according to these accounts.

At one point, one crowd of protesters turned its message toward the American President Barack Obama, chanting, “Obama, Obama, you are either with us or with them.”

Actually, they’ve mistaken their man: Our president seems to be voting “present” on this one too, undoubtedly hoping that the extended hand will be greeted by the unclenched fist:

Israeli navy commandos seized a cargo ship early Wednesday in the Mediterranean Sea that Israeli officials said was carrying rockets and ammunition bound for militants from Hezbollah…

News reports quoted the Israeli president, Shimon Peres, and other officials saying the ship had been carrying the arms from Iran to Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, but officials released no evidence to back up those claims.

Hope ≠ Strategy.

This new breed of “revolter” is pretty resilient. The 99 students were pretty much shut down after 4 of them were killed. A significant higher number seems to have been “dissapeared” after the recent elections, yet the flame has not gone out yet? is there “hope” there for something more?

  • YOu know…a few months back, he had the opportunity to stand with those who wanted to have a more civilized form of “leadership” for that nation of antiquity. He said….well….we can’t meddle.

I’m sensing a pattern: He dithered then, he’s dithering now. Seems like anything other than spending money we don’t have right now to avert a disaster that seems to happen despite the promises can’t be decided upon…ever.

The One does NOT always dither. He has stood up promptly and loudly when the obviously rigged Iranian elections were declared a victory for the incumbent. He has quickly supported Zeyala in Honduras who was thrown out in a constitutional manner instead of being allowed to remain in office longer than his term.

Cynics would note that he may be highlighting “appropriate” responses in case his legitimacy is every questioned or crooked elections occur here.

Sadly, Obama’s ditheriness makes Jimmy Carter look decisive and intimidating.

    We deserve better.

John is right. Obamas “dithering” is calculated all the way. He has been a “no footprint” guy from jump-street and the Leopard ain’t about to change his spots now. And John is right. He’s decisive and unhesitating alright–as long as it gives aid and comfort to enemies of America. This mans’ basic operating premiss is an extreme leftist one that holds that America has much to answer for in this world and he is out to address our wrongs and reduce America to but one among many to the point where we can do the least “damage.” Utterly Despicable. (Except it’s no joking matter)
