Former President Bush and his first lady visited those wounded in the Fort Hood massacre:
Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood’s Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood’s military leaders and hospital staff for the “amazing care they are providing.”
Strangely, there don’t appear to be any photos of the event.
The remains of those killed have been transported to Dover Air Force Base for processing prior to burial. Operating within Pentagon guidelines, family members have elected to deny access to the media.
So, it’s very likely that we won’t see any carefully framed photographs there, either.
Probably just as well.

Whether you agree with his policies or not, Bush is a gentleman and a grown-up. And kind. And doesn’t batten on other folks’ tragic moments.
Gosh, I miss him.

What Marianne said.
And I’ve been thinking: Reportedly the rate of families allowing media access to their loved ones’ remains at Dover had until recently been at about 50% or more. Considering that only one gave approval when they found out Obama would be visiting as he did a few weeks ago, and now all the Ft. Hood families are saying no (despite NO indications Obama would show up to observe the arrivals at Dover)… what will the future rate of approval be?
The message sent is stark.
Maybe I’m assuming too much, but I thought this was telling:
I’d bet money that was only after word leaked out and a reporter contacted him to confirm. If not, it would’ve been written, “said in a release to the media,” (or similar).
Did anyone else notice that last week was Obama’s FIRST visit to WRMC? That he could get to DAFB for a photo op BEFORE he could visit our valiant wounded warriors?
Or that he could get to Ben’s Chili Bowl for lunch first? I mean, really. WTF? Nine months to take a twenty minute drive?
Scott, Scott, Scott,
You just don’t EVEN understand. When a guy’s so busy coordinating…..

I think the correct term is “organizing”
Geez . . .
The Bushes are indeed classy. The whole family. Once when asked about the difference in the Kennedys and the Bushes by a reporter doing a profile on dynastic political families, Barbara Bush curtly replied, “We don’t send out press releases.”
’bout summed it up in my mind.
There is no substitute for class. That is Ws original sin. The grubby comrades of the news industry and the left hate class, and the Bush family has seemingly always had it.
Hey, the left and Obama have plenty of class. It’s just all low.
The difference between “Class” and “Ass”… just sayn’
