Thing is he did this all during his presidency as well. No cameras, no press, just doing the right thing the right way. Still have not heard if Obama saluted all of the fallen when he went to Dover or just the one to get the photo op, sadly I suspect he did not. I will apologize if someone can correct my assumption.

That blog entry is making the rounds. There is a link to their farewell to Pres. Bush on 20 Jan. That too is a good read. Here is a bit from that piece:

“We’ve been thinking of what to say about former President George W. Bush, now that he’s officially a former president. Our first impulse was to write about the Florida recount and the time we spent down in Tallahassee in 2000, screaming and yelling like crazy people, demanding justice and fairness and the unalienable right for all votes to count, but considering we had to go to Washington DC on May 31st last year (for the Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting) to scream and yell for the Democratic party to count all votes in Florida and Michigan, any residual anger we had over Election 2000’s been squarely absolved.

Then, we thought we’d open this by complaining about how silly it was that Bush gave everyone from staff members to world leaders nicknames, and carried on like an old frat boy long expelled but still planning the next kegger, but then we remember the Obama fist-bumps and the “hip slang” (hey, do me a solid) the 44th president tries to work into almost everything he says, and suddenly calling Vladimir Putin “Pooty-poot” doesn’t seem so unusual.”

My question to them was “Why were you not posting stuff like this 18 months ago?”

Color me ‘Thunderstruck’. Damn, my ass is sore from falling over after reading that one. Let’s hope that more pop tall and give it up for Dubbya and his Deputy; and Laura and Lynn, too.

Joe, I was going to be a smart ass and reply to the “hey, do me a solid” with “How about a jacketed hollow point instead?”, but that wouldn’t do. What with everybody being all sensitive and such…

Seriously though, the day I read something like this from the Huff Poop is the day I check in for a Psych Eval. Then I’ll know I’m hallucinating.

  • History will be more generous to President Bush and a few in the MSM are finally getting it, albeit a little late.

With only a year into it, and more and more of Obama’s supporters wondering about their choices, today’s posting brings the photo of Pres. Bush waving to the camera captioned “miss me yet?” to mind. Pretty much on-target for a lot of folks. Since the only other choice was McCain, who was derided of “more of the same”, “Bush II”, etc., how’s that all line up now?

Buyer’s remorse, with no Lemon Law available. Change the House (10 & 12), ride it out, await the swing of the pendulum and pray the damage isn’t permanent.

Day late & a dollar short, Hillbuzz.

Given the bookends of Bush’s adminstration, he was a shining light. I didn’t think Bush (either one, for that matter) was much of a President, but the hatred that was slung his way by the left was truly galling. Some of our countrymen are small people indeed.

Nice that at least one bunch is waking up.

  • I’ll be damned. Wonders never cease.

Okay, i’ve read through some of their postings and have to say i really like that blog. Sure, they’re liberals (though not especially modern-left), but very, very smart and fair. Also, unlike pretty much every other left/liberal blog out there, they’re actually quite fair to Sarah Palin.

    Weird.

This is the kind of political opposition i can get along with. One can actually debate and argue in a civilized manner. It’s just so sad that i am just so surprised.

The Hillbuzz blogpost was excellent, and did you go through the comments? A troll free zone!

    • SJBill

OTOH, Phib linked to the very same post and was granted a Troll Fest. I just check the Hillbuzz post and there is over 500 comments, mostly favorable to “W” and the post. Amazing!

  • Marianne Matthews

Good on those Hillbuzzers… a little late maybe, but a sincere post. It’s difficult always to say that “I was wrong. I’m sorry.” And this was very generously done. How many folks do you know who can cowboy up and do that? Don’t know that many, myself. This is the way classic Democrats and Republicans used to argue with each other, back in the days of my youth. Fight fair, toe to toe, and when the argument ended, have a drink together. Not so much of that any more — virtually none of it in Washington. All too often, it’s verbally destroy the character of your opponent, and devil take the hindmost. And we’re all the poorer for it.

As for George W. I suspect that it will take at least 20 years before we see among the pundits a reasoned, and accurate, assessment of his presidency. But his fundamental decency of character is already manifest.

    Gosh, I miss him.

You’re right, Marianne, at least 20 years. That’s how long it took for Reagan to be fairly evaluated and not just gut-reaction vilified.

I always admired what W did, not necessarily all of what it was. When he first said he was going to cut taxes at an unheard of amount, Congress screamed and wailed and said it was going to raise taxed instead. By the time they finished, Congress had cut taxes to a record amount. Not as much as Bush had wanted originally, but still it was a HUGE cut in taxes and Congress did it for him. He always stated what he wanted, then next thing you knew, he had it. It was way cool.

I miss him so much. This POTUS just makes me cringe and expect the worst actions and motives possible. I HATE that. I want to respect my President, but this one makes it awfully hard.

  • Its kind of like as a kid and your Old Man is making you do stuff that you’d rather not and you thought he wasn’t cool. Then when you get old enough to appreciate the values instilled the Old Man becomes the one you wish you could grow up to be.

Bush told us things we didn’t want to hear and had the courage to stay the course no matter how much wailing there was.

Of course now we’ve got a President who’s chief aim appears not to want to “offend” anyone, especially our enemies. That he is getting no respect and Bush looks better every day shouldn’t be surprising. Not to say the President isn’t liked – what kid doesn’t like a parent who let’s them skip school, never do chores, and promises to take them to Disney World without telling them they will have to pay for it in their old age.

If I hear the WON say “my administration” one more time, I will run from the room screaming. Here is a news flash, you overly self-absorbed narcissist — it isn’t all about you. I thought Clinton was self-absorbed, but he doesn’t begin to measure up to what we have now. The two are bad book ends to GWB’s stoicism.

There — I feel so much better now.

  • OldT6Pilot

Was reading an article in the WaPo about Obama skipping town just as the economic news gets released. Read the comments and most of them seemed to be from the left and, almost to a person, expressed disdain for the President. A few pointed out that Obama has supposedly played more golf in the first year than any President before – “even more than George Bush” one disappointed liberal wailed. Well IIRC correctly George W. Bush quietly gave up playing golf, “for the duration” saying that he did not think it set the right tone for a President to be playing golf while sending men and women to war.

Now I’m not one to think a President needs to take a vow of recreational poverty while in office but the incident points out another contrast in leadership styles that makes one President grow in statue and another continue to sink in my opinion.

  • Quartermaster

FRom the looks of things, this guy is going to be far worse than Clinton’s 8 year rec period in the Oval Office. the Obamanation’s term is over 20% past now, but it’s going to be a long three years of him dodging any responsibility for what he’s done.

  • David Curp

The Indians (and even Pakistanis) sure do miss, W, esp. given how Sec. Clinton revealed the Obama administration’s ham fist within an iron glove http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/Washington-gasps-at-Hillary-charm-el-shake-offensive-that-leaves-Islamabad-stunned/articleshow/5179112.cms
