Off to DCA, for to see a former subordinate of mine – and good young man – elevated to an Assistant Secretary of the Navy spot and all sworn in, like. A lesson in humility it shall be for me the former boss, although it cannot have hurt that hizzoner shared law school classes with Our Nation’s President.

Which be that as it might, comms will be intermittent over the next cuppla.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Update: In ATL for a two-hour layover. Yes, we have beer. I swear that the first officer on the flight from SAN to ATL must have been at least 55. I know that ATL is a senior base, but golly.

Plus, $50 to check two bags? Sheesh.

The guy doesn’t get it. AT ALL!!! http://hillbuzz.org/2009/11/14/the-president-of-the-united-states-should-bow-to-no-one/

Bowing to the Emperor of Japan now.

That new hot item bumpersticker is making more and more sense now.

    “Obama – Psalm 109:8″

Baggage fees, as such, supposedly compensating for high fuel costs. Now that fuel costs are down? Almost like tax increases. Next time maybe Southwest (no bag fees).

Except that Southwest doesn’t fly to DCA… November is no time to stand out on the train platform waiting for the Amtrak or MARC to take you from Baltimore to DC, as I was reminded again this week. Now I remember why it’s been four years since I flew into Baltimore even though Southwest is so cheap. :P

Ever since they implemented baggage fees the overheads are completely stuffed, boarding is chaotic as people roam the aisle looking for any available space, and half the time they have to stuff carry-on into baggage section. I can’t imagine they make any money when they take into account the inefficiencies and incremental business lost to SW over this.

The baggage fees are dangerous. They’ve increased the use of overhead bins and someone is going to get hurt as people try to get their baggage that would normally be checked, out of the bins. As my husband said in a text to me while waiting for passengers to get settled on his flight from NYC to Palm Beach a couple weeks ago, ‘Old people and overhead baggage do not mix.’ The older Americans had no qualms checking their bags before the fees. Now people who have lost a considerable amount of upper body muscle mass are putting heavy bags up over their heads. For the first time, I now try to get middle or window seats. Aisle seats seem dangerous to me now…
