Scott Ott at Scrappleface is known for his biting satire, but I didn’t realize that he had gone legit. Reporting for the National Journal, he writes about the Massachusetts senate race:
As audience members streamed out of Pres. Obama’s rally on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) here tonight, the consensus was that the fault for Coakley’s now-floundering MA SEN bid lies with one person — George W. Bush.
“People are upset because there’s so many problems,” Rosemary Kverek, 70, a retired Charleston schoolteacher said as tonight’s rally wrapped up. “But the problems came from the previous administration. So we’re blaming poor Obama, who’s working 36 hours a day … to solve these problems that he inherited.”
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), speaking with a gaggle of reporters after the event, said that while state Sen. Scott Brown (R) offers voters a quick fix, in reality, the problems created by “George Bush and his cronies” are not so easily solved.
Whooey, that guy can parody with the best of them.
You: The Journal piece was written by someone named Felicia Sonmez, Lex. And Ott always writes under his own name.
Me: You’re kidding. Right?

“Life imitates art”—even the farcical kind. Or, alternatively, “you just can’t make it up.”
Ahh, yes, it’s all George Bush’s fault. Because “poor Obama is working 36 hours a day” to solve these problems he inherited… yeah, right. What Obama inherited was a thriving economy which had been in a steady growth pattern for eight years. What we have now is a debt-ridden economy induced by the policies of the present administration, and which offers no promise of getting better any time soon. And I seriously doubt that Obama has *ever* worked 36 hours a day, or even 16.
I certainly wouldn’t want that woman teaching my kids.
Marianne
The ABSOLUTE key to it all, Marianne, is the ability to say it with a totally straight face. These people have absolutely no shame and unlimited amounts of gall; or as Richard Boone as Cisco Grimes said to Paul Newman’s character John Russell in “Hombre” : “Mister, you’ve got some bark on you!” (Only in this case it AIN’T in a good way!)
Years ago when I was running a water quality sensor business we did a lot of business in MA. On my first trip there I figured the inhabitants would all be hugely democratic with a slanted view of anything conservative. Found I was wrong. The majority of state and municipal workers I came in contact with were more conservative than I was. Gun toting, NRA voting, anti-Kennedy, good ole boys (and some gurlz too). Of all ethnic backgrounds. They were quick to inform me that not everyone in that beautiful state was a Harvard educated elitist snob. Unfortunately, there just happens to be more liberetards than normal people. Maybe their voice is about to be heard, one can hope.
Adding to the credibility of his remarks, the aforementioned Patrick Kennedy repeatedly referred to the Democratic candidate for Senate as “Marcia” Coakley. Martha Coakley had no comment.
Marcia Choakley. It’s Marcia Choakley. Let’s get it right people. Of course Geraldo had it all wrong when he called her Martha Oakley. Annie’s sister???????
Man, I wish I could vote there… just this one time..
I’ve wondered what the effect of a constitutional amendment that would allow you to vote in your congressional district and one other district anywhere in the country would be? Not sure how it would be regulated, but it seems to me that would potentially keep someone such as Pelosi from being 2 heartbeats away from the Presidency on the basis of a non-demographically representative district. Thought I’d throw that out for the better minds than mine to dissect.
I’ll take care of that for you tomorrow, Flatlander. Me and both of my sons are voting for Brown. My significant other was born and raised here, so she’ll do the knee jerk democrat thing, bit it’s OK. We got her outnumbered, at least in this family.
You can, anybody can. The Democrat Machine in Massachusetts is getting people from all over the country to come and vote. Including people already dead. Note my cynicism but this has nothing to do with the fact that I was born in Quincy, MA and spent a good part of my life in MassaTuusetts, dealing with all good ol’ hacks and partisans.
Hey someone has to be born in Quinn-zee…it might as well be you… suggest you deal with it and quit bitching. Best
Don’t live there anymore and was just making an observation. BTW, am darn proud of my birth place. Quincy, city of presidents. You gatta be from the area, seeing as you know the propah pronounciation. Dissing on Quincy eh? Whatta ya from Deluxebury or somtin’?
HG…no disrespect intended for fair Quincy the crown jewel of the south shore…fond memories of the place…my first legal job… good friends still practice there…never made it that far south to Deluxbury…stopped at Marshfield Hills by way of Hingham and Scituate…now live in the golden west a/k/a paradise. Best
Let’s hope George W. Bush can be blamed for Harry Reid being sent home, too. Just Like Marcia Coakley.
Irony:
Brown wins Teddy’s seat, ObamaCare (that had been proposed to named after the Lion of the Senate hisself) looks like a Zero at the Marianna’s Turkey Shoot (Historical ref so ya’ll would get it!)
I love it when a plan comes together!
Hummm, you ever think the Goddess Nemeses is still out there and going about her work?
Well, I did my part. My daughter lives out in Massachusetts, so I called her up and asked her who she was going to vote for. Turns out she hadn’t made up her mind, so she and I had a 20 minute discussion on the issues. One telling comment from her: “O.K., let’s say I trust Obama – not that I necessarily do, but let’s say I do. What happens 4 or 8 years from now when he’s gone and someone else gets elected? What are they going to do?”
Good girl. Now you’re thinking. She IS a bright young woman (B.S. in EE). She’ll figure it out. And she’s a big Red Sox fan.
I just fired my contribution to the “shot heard around the world” keep your fingers crossed. Best
My wife voted when the polls opened at 7 this morning. Not a Coakley sign holder to be seen. Same deal two hours later when I voted. Nothing but Scott Brown signs all over town. Heavy volume, lots of smiles. I haven’t seen anything like it since 1980.
I love the smell of irony @ 21:22 EST…as Coakley at least has the good manners to not go all Fraken on the issue.
