I’m trying to recall if the House Minority Leader flys commercial. I sure hope so. La Pelosi needs to be in the back of the bus after November.

Denny Hastert, her predecessor as House Majority Leader, flew home to his Chicago district–using a Gulfstream III.
When Ms. Pelosi became House Majority Leader, the Gulfstream III “wasn’t good enough because it lacked the range to reach San Francisco”. That’s news to me because back in my corporate lawyer days, the honchos at the corporation I worked for routinely took G-III’s from Los Angeles to New York –either way–without worrying about refueling stops. They also had the range to fly from Los Angeles to Paris with one stop for fuel and four or five passengers plus crew on board. Now if you load the bird up with half your extended family and a ton of booze, well, you might have to put down once in a while to refuel.

Anyway Queen Nancy wound up with a 757 for her trips to and from San Francisco and Washington D.C. I had my suspicions that Nancy was a phony before the “Gulfstream doesn’t have the range” bit, but I knew it for sure once I read that.

All hail Queen Nancy! There’s a large mustard-mine near here. And the moral of that is — The more there is of mine, the less there is of yours.

The commentors over there don’t seem to care for us Caucasian types, do they?

  • bizjetmech

As I recall, Hastert flew home in a G-4 (may have been a G-3 but most of those have been modded of have left the country due to noise restrictions) after 911. Before that he flew commercial and after some time elapsed after 911 he again flew commercial.
Pelosi, I hear, regularly schedules a flight in order to hold an aircraft even though she may not need it, just so it is available, thus tying up resources that others might otherwise have needed.
She is a illustrative of our elitist representatives though-out congress. It is flagrant in your face “I don’t give a sh** what you think….sort of like “call me senator, I worked hard for this (babs Boxer, also from the Bay Area)…
They never consider that they are ELECTED PUBLIC SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE.
They all need to be fired.

  • Madconductor

My goodness. The comments almost made ME blush.

Nahhh. Just kidding. A bunch of dumocrat trolls lurking there, though.

  • virgil xenophon

Well, Well, I guess I’ll just have to add her to that long list of people I’m going to pay a “visit” to if and when I’m diagnosed with incurable cancer…

    • Quartermaster

Virg, I think Lex is talking about us whining about the moderation trollbot. I thought we were being reasonable since we would never talk like those trolls over at the other place.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

    • Scott

A Gran Torino moment, there VX?

      • virgil xenophon

“I swear I’m gonna shoot her on general principles.”………..VINCENT–Pulp
        Fiction

At least the two twits in the coffee shop were pulling an honest, in-your-face-robbery. Isn’t what Nancy is doing to the US taxpayers the same thing, but on the sly? And on a far vaster scale?

(And yes, Scott, QM, I understood about the trollbot thing–just exercising my personal right to a “Gran Torino” moment. :) )

Sounds like that great justifiable homicide line from Texas history:

“He (or in this case, she) needed killin’

On a serious note, Pelosi has two constituencies — her district, and her caucus. Her district will only throw her out for the same criteria Edwin Edwards thought — in bed with a dead boy, or live girl. Her caucus is another subject. This ridiculousness, on top of the $1M Copenhagen troughfest she approved, needs to be hung around the neck of every member of her caucus — every Democrat congressman from a moderate district needs to see her picture in there sleep. I don’t want them necessarily thrown out, but she needs to be radioactive. Only way it will change.

And on a note of propriety — if alcohol at a business meal is an unallowable expense for defense contractors, then why is the AF stocking her a/c with booze? For someone who has such a hard on for contractors, why isn’t she willing to live by the same rules?

          That is all.

  • SJBill

    Think she’ll buy a round at Shakespeare’s?

    • ProwlerAMDO

No. She’d demand we’d buy her a round off the top shelf and grovel at her feet in gratitude for all she has done for us, legislatively of course, and because she was gracious enough to let us in her presence.

      This is clinical Narcissism.

  • John

Amazing how worked up some people get over trivial little matters.

However, her behavior certainly does not inspire anything more than mere perusal of catalogs for tar, feathers, rails, pitchforks, etc. I mean, she is ENTITLED to a little special treatment. She’s the speaker of the frigging HOUSE, third in line to the Presidency not some low life swabby, or JP-5 smelling aviator, or other mere taxpaying peon.

Besides, her business interests at home and adoring family all need to flit about on a tight schedule so they are not inconvenienced or anything.

Geez, what a grumpy bunch who would begrudge her event these small perks.

    • SCOTTtheBADGER

Well, I am certainly one of the grumpy ones, but I am a Badger, after all.

    • Wow John – low life swabby? JP-5 smelling aviator?

Just remember that those people you describe thusly have ensured that you have the right to say these things on a military blog owned by a retired JP-5 smelling aviator.

Nancy Pelosi is a cow of the Marie Antoinette persuasion. I don’t care what her job is. Entitled to a little special treatment – -sure. Using military jets to transport her family all over the place and expecting us to pay for it is a little beyond special treatment.

It is entitlement and it’s what is wrong with our government since 2006.

      • GRB

“It is entitlement and it’s what is wrong with our government since 2006.” Kris, it’s what been wrong with our government forever. Ultimate power corrupts, ultimately. Pretty sad, actually.

  • Marianne Matthews

I suspect that you gents and ladies may have forgotten when, last summer or the one before, Madam Speaker shut down activities in the House of Representatives so that she could go home and officiate at her daughter’s wedding. I was quite nauseated by that.

And yes, Prowler, this is a flagrant example of malignant narcissism.

    Marianne

  • Mike Myers

Marianne in different contexts (and thankfully none involving my children) I’ve seen or heard of mothers in law like Ms. Pelosi. Now were I her unfortunate son in law I might well think that she didn’t really need a plane to fly to the wedding to “officiate”. Her broomstick would be quite sufficient.

  • Humble1310

Meh. . .I’d rather my congressmen fly military. At least it guarantees we’ll get money for jet fuel and some flight hours. . .

I know the VR Gulfstream guys at K Bay are constantly scrounging for NALO jobs because otherwise, they don’t get any money to even fly and stay current.

    • BUTCH

Humble – I’m on the staff at Fourth Fleet, and we’re often scrounging for NALO support.

    • Mongo

      Minor thredjack
Remembering days gone by with MAG-24 at K-Bay:
      Mid to late 70′s
      VMFA-212 F-4J
      VMFA-235 F-4J
      VMFA-232 F-4J (After 1977)
      HMM-165 CH-46/UH-1N
      HMM-262 CH-46/UH-1N
      HMM-265 CH-46/UH-1N
      HMH-463 CH-53D
      H&MS-24 TA-4J
      MABS-24 Airfield Services

Once -232 came over from Iwakuni, the F-4 squadrons commenced a 6 month rotation to Japan/Okinawa. The HMM outfits would embark on a 6 month cruise, along with a CH-53 Det and a battalion from 3rd Marines aboard.

The 1st Marine Brigade was much more self sustaining and quick to respond to contingencies in those days. Lots of flying back then; 25-30 fixed wing sorties daily, with an equal number of rotary wing sorties. K-Bay was a very busy place then.

  • Mongo

Yeah, those guys at Andrews have it rough. Nearly 25 flight hours between 29Aug08 and 03Sep08. I’m just trying to imagine the drunken debauchery and other misconduct that go on during these flights, and how much abuse the crew have to withstand.

It was reported that Uday & Qusay Hussein eclipsed their father’s malignant behavior, and I’m wondering just how true that holds, in their own way, for Pelosi’s family members. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and the Pelosi family makes no attempt at being the exception.

  • Dust

Pelosi is the poster girl of the entrenched privledged ruling class in congress, kept there by her money and reprobate constituency. Seemingly, only an Act of God can change that.

At the risk of getting flamesprayed by my comrades here, and to state up front that I’m not a fan of the Speaker…
    :
Post 9/11, a decision was made regarding blanket authorization, to ensure Cintinuity of Operations) for certain members of the USG to use US military aircraft (primarliy the Special Air Mission aircraft of the 89th Air Wing and Andrews AFB).

The Speaker of the House, as #3 in line of succession, is one of those folks.

The Sargeant at Arms of the House, Wilson Livingood (career Secret Service and apolitical by requirement, 11 years in the job), is the guy who coordinates MILAIR travel for all Reperesentatives. The Speaker of the House professional staff cordinates with the Sargeant at Arms for ALL travel by memebrs of the House.

Both Speaker Hastert and Speaker Pelosi have used MILAIR for travel.
DoD makes the call as to what aircraft are used, based on availability and the travel required.

89th Air Wing flies VC25 (“Air Force One” B747), C32 (“Air Force Two” B757), C20 (Gulfstream III), C37 (Gulfstream IV), and C40 (B737) Special Aircraft Mission aircraft.

Use of these aircraft gets major league scrutiny by GAO, the JCS/USAF/USN IG’s, and all the JAG folk. One of my odious collateral duties in the Pentagon required involvement in the oversight of use of Special Aircraft Mission flights. As anyone who has worked these issues knows, coordinating VIP travel is an exercise in juggling soup and requires constantly changing plans, checking the ehtics rules, etc. Also – it requires being utterly apolitical and ensuring that everyone (Republican , Democrat, Independent) gets the same deal … You might not personally like that deal being given to anyone, but it is what it is….

The link Lex provided is a recapitluation of stuff that’s been out in the blogosphere for a couple of years. Its contents are at best selective and having morphed over time, at worst falsehood.

Matter of fact, former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow (God rest his Soul – a great guy that I had the chance to work with) said this whole affair was “just silly”.

There’s plenty of real stuff out there to bash the Speaker over the head with – this spurious stuff just undercuts those arguments.

    I’m just sayin’

    • FLETA HOT

Having just come in from shovelling the 10+ inches of snow that wafted down over the Blue Ridge yesterday, I can see I do deserve to be flamesprayed for my lousy spelling!!!

  • LeastGuvmint

Madam Speaker apparently took the advice in The Graduate seriously. You know. “Plastics”. She is beginning to look like an android.

I know that is an “ad hominem” attack. Which, I believe, means an attack that sounds like another attack.

    Yes, I am kidding.

  • PeterGunn

Heck, Fleta, you sound as if you know from where you speak… but hey, I don’t like that Pelosi speaker person one bit, just the same, thank you.

By the way, be careful shoveling; be sure to bend your knees.

  • Scott

Hey, there FLETA — certainly understand the issue of VIP travel, also having been tangentially connected to it. But while I understand your observations about CODEL travel, I really don’t understand the Speaker requesting MILAIR travel for her family, on flights she isn’t on — on at least eight occasions. It may have been old history, but it was just brought to light by a recent FOIA request.

Second, according to that same FOIA request, while the policy allowing the Speaker to use MILAIR may have been the same while Hastert held the office, the utilization wasn’t even on the same planet. Hastert used it (one way) around ten times per year. Pelosi, typically has used it around twenty five to thirty.

It really isn’t an issue of “bring down the Democrat” — it is an issue of removing the idea that somehow, a position puts one so far above the hoi polloi. It is an attitude, that is corrosive and harmful to our democracy. Like I said earlier, I’m not sure a Speaker Boehner would be any better. I just want it to end.
