Too right, Mongo. When I lived in Chicago (1992-2006), I was told to go to Home Depot and pronounced it dee pot. It’s those crazy French words, they say them as if they were English. My favorite is the tennis player, Guy Forget.

I got that by e-mail today & laughed out loud. If he’d only said it once, it could have been a slip of the tongue, but twice showed me ignorance. TOTUS is handy for him, but apparently doesn’t do pronunciations.

Poor Muffin….you screwed the pooch with that speech and the media called you on it….Now you know what GW went through….
USMC are there at the WH each day guarding this poor excuse for a leader that was elected by an uninformed electorate…I bet he gets some real chilled silence from the Marines on station there (who likely were alot more friendly until this incident)….you can make many mistakes but doing so when speaking about Marines in public is not one of them….

Miss Birdlegs, it wasn’t “twice” which shows ignorance.
It was three times–which shows stupidity.
What it actually shows is that Obama doesn’t practice his Teleprompter speeches; if he did, someone knowledgeable in the White House might have caught his mispronunciation. On the other hand, that assumes that there is someone knowledgeable in the White House. As this old lawyer might say, that is a fact not in evidence.
Actually, he mispronounced it in an earlier speech as well. You can check this out on Limbaugh’s website or his recorded show for Feb. 9, 2010, in which he played the speech. It’s not just that he doesn’t know how to pronounce the word, the fact is that either his advisers / handlers don’t know, either, or they are for some reason reluctant to correct him.
Smartest guy in the room? I don’t think so. Let’s see the school records.

It would be better that way. Since it won’t happen for 3 years yet, we can still have a little fun. Didn’t the Wunwhowun say he had considered joining the Marines at one time? I wonder how things might be different for him if he had. He would at least know more about life than he does now.
I’m glad R. Lee wasn’t my drill instructor. He ALWAYS cracks me up, and I think he would have killed me for laughing at him.
Perhaps that is how they say it in Ebonics?
