Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

I believe that I have seen ads for ear protectors for dogs.
You’ve got to wonder what he’s thinking, with so much to see. I think this guy trumps the dog who got to ride the Budweiser Clydesdale Wagon.
“Hey!… Yeah you in the left seat… How do get this window to go down so I can stick my head out in the wind?”
He’s probably thinking that he could be sitting on top of a few hundred six packs of beer…
What? Huh? Whadyah say? Yeah, I know, real corny.
A dog’s hearing is quite sensitive and it takes less to damage their hearing. I’ve been told a couple long rides in a recip powered GA AC will render a Dog deaf. Bill Cox, of Plane and Pilot Magazine, has taken his dog flying a couple times. He quit after the dog piddled on the leather seats.
There may be hearing protection for dogs, but I don’t know about it. Bill Cox, of Plane and Pilot Magazine asked the Clark people if they had designed a headset for dogs. They laughed at him.
The general popularity of the “Firehouse Dog” has never been great with the public at large mainly because they unfortunately have a reputation for turning mean with age. Whether this is deserved or not I don’t know..
Virgil, I’ve heard they can get cantankerous when they are young as well. I have no idea if it’s in the breeding (Chihuahuas have a problem with mental illness as a result of breeding). I have heard from more than one source that Dalmatians can be hard to live with.
Now Dachshunds? They are a pleasure to live with. My Blue Heeler was the only dog I’ve had that was more than the Wiener Dogs I had in Oregon.
Hearing protection – yes. Seat and seat belt – MOST DEFINITELY. Or as Grampaw Pettibone would say “dagnabbit, that is man’s best friend behind ya son, so treat him like it”

Just what the Doctor ordered! I am very glad to see that. Now if I get a newer version of Sassy, she can ride the air with me.
Aw, they also get bad sunburns. And hip dysplasia. But they’re hard not to love.
You know Liz – you just described me. And I agree, I’m hard not to love.
Sorry just couldn’t resist. Had a hip replacement last year due to congenital hip dysplasia. And yeah, I’m mostly of Scandinavian descent so sunburns and me go together very well.
Sorry, way O.T. but…the sun is shining here and it’s over 50 degrees. Leaves a New Englander feeling a little giddy.
Kris, I would think your self described Native American heritage would militate against your implied pasty Scandinavian whiteness….maybe not. Best
PS, Its also glorious here in Paradise…no place like NE in early Spring.
Snake – I do have Native American heritage – I just don’t look like that side of the family. Pasty Scandinavian is how I roll.
It isn’t even early spring yet and everyone is just happier. Amazing what a little sunlight can do for a person…
I am Norwegian Fishbelly White at the moment, myself, Kris.
That dog would look great in a See’s Candy Store.
What, no open window so I can sniff the air? C’mon!
There are earplugs available that fit horses, to permit mounted shooting. One would think that a similar concept is available for dogs.
I know, I could google it, but the loudest thing my dogs are exposed to is their own barking.
Two of our four (e.g. the two who fly with us) pooches wear Mutt Muffs. Workngood, last long time, they #1, GI!
Which it’s “dalmatians,” sir.
Took 18 posts to catch it.
mation, matian, mutt-ian. They still come when you call. Which is part of their appeal. Mine rides the front of the boat – duck blind boat, fishing boat, skiing boat – just as far forward as he can get. The look is “that’s the best you got?”. Hadn’t thought about Simmons in the Lance, but now have that scheduled, soon as i get some mutt muffs – thanks CJ!
Service to humanity, that. Dogmanity as well.
Before he died I used to take my Black Lab flying all the time. He loved it and it never seemed to hurt his hearing. But it was hard to tell because he never listened to me anyway!
How many jumps did he make?
Almost one! I was flying a 182 home and 3 jumpers wanted me to drop them off on my way out. I had Baron, my Lab, with so I tied him to the back of my seat, climbed to 10,000′, opened the door and the 3 way climbed out. Baron thought this was all very interesting and when they left he jumped toward the open door to see where his friends went! It was a good thing I had tied him with a short rope or I would have had a dog in tow! He was a great dropzone dog and I even had him trained to carry my helmet in from the landing area. He was also the best begger ever, if i could have trained him to beg for money instead of food I could have retired a millionaire! God I miss that dog.
Dude! Beg for beer…before the other up jumpers snagged it all…
I think my Lab would have those muffs off in about 3 seconds. How did you users keep them on?
