Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

Have you hugged yours today?
Many, many years ago my little 2-year-old daughter wandered out of the yard while we were busy planting a shrub or something. She got about 4 houses down the street before we noticed (she was fast!) and the way we found her was by hearing the barking and snarling. Our little mutt was right with her, as usual, and when the neighbor kid tried to pick our little girl up to bring her home, the dog just about ripped his arm off! We found him cornered against his own house, with the dog snarling at him and refusing to let him move, while our daughter was busy exploring his front lawn! He said he had never seen such large teeth on such a small dog!
Thanks for the link, Lex
I love Mongo’s comment. I hesitated to write about Sausage b/c I’m well aware that people have so many problems and I didn’t want it to sound as though I were whining.
But I kept thinking about how much I took him for granted while he was still there. We tend to notice the annoyances while not appreciating all the wonderful times and the love they bring into our lives
The biggest thing to come out of this has been the realization of how lucky were were to have had such a wonderful friend. So thanks for helping me remember him. He was a fine hound.
Sharing your pain isn’t whining, Love. We’re all here to bear it with you.
My deepest sympathies to you.
I am here in AFGHN and I miss the company of my “Nutsie Muttsies” more than some of my friends….they are the soul of life and life without them is NOT the same
I saw a Dog Handler here the other month, and I slowed down my vehicle and yelled out, ” HEY – Do you know you are the luckiest SOB in this place?? You get to take your best buddy with you everywhere you go…”
His reply, ” YES – yes I am the luckiest SOB in this place..”
Never more truer words were spoken in this God-foresaken land.
I had two Wiener dogs when we lived in Oregon. The only dog I had more fun with was Sassy my Blue Heeler that left us on 7 Feb 2001. Sassy went everywhere we went. Her favorite word was “ride.” She always ran to the Van then looked at us as though that was the most stupid question she had ever heard. How much we miss that dog. Funny how far under your hide a critter like that will bore.
Being allergic to all animals now I can’t have any pets. But I grew up with them – Beagles – and I now live vicariously thru the pets of my friends. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, etc…
When one of them leaves this mortal coil, I believe we all are diminished. Our fur family ask for the basics of existence – yet give us so much love and tender care that it’s a most lopsided relationship.
Hugs to Cass and all here who know the pain of this kind of loss.
“Lord, please let me be the person my dog thinks I am.”
Our wire-hair weiner dog Schatzie is now 13 and I know we only have a few more years with her, although she is in good health now. I dread that time coming more than anything I can think of right now. Our lives have fuller and richer for her being here.
Our condolences, Cassie.

God created dogs so that people would appreciate how short life is. And also, maybe, how we should live it.
