The Iraqi democracy – there are two fine words sitting side by side – has learned perhaps too well from freedom’s cradle:

Iraq’s election commission has rejected calls from the president and prime minister for a recount of votes cast in the general election on 7 March.

An election official said a recount of all votes would be impossible and was unnecessary because of checks on fraud.

Earlier, President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri Maliki backed calls for a manual recount of votes.

Partial results indicate a close race between Mr Maliki and former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.

But the long delay in announcing the full results has led to growing allegations of fraud.

I just wish they might have taken better notes on Philadelphia in 1776 than Florida in 2000.

I sure wish people would get the hell off Floridas back about the hanging chads. Florida was by far not the only state to have problems with this form of ballot. You can believe by the congressional elections of 2002 that this form of balloting was history.

How about we focus instead on the Democrat parties refusal to allow thousands of absentee ballots cast by those overseas protecting our freedom?

Talk about unconscionable, playing politics by denial of defending voices was the lowest of the low.

  • Or about the pretty-much-unknown number of ballots that either arrived late or not at all…

  • July 4th, 1776 to be specific. I mentioned that date today on my own little piece of internet pie.

Yeah, I don’t know why Washington state didn’t get their fair share of media attention over the chad incident. Geez! As for the election results, obviously not enough baksheesh to get a determinate result. Doh!

Because of the Florida 2000 election, Ohio passed a law requiring electronic voting machines. They quietly rescinded the requirement when it was sown just how easy it was to hack them.

A return to paper ballots that can be optically scanned is in order and worked very well in Ohio for the counties that used them. Never saw any “hanging chads” in those counties that used a punch out ballot. I used both and could live with either one.

Florida was an issue simply because of the electoral vote. If I remember, Washington didn’t have a large enough to electoral college vote to make a difference in 2000.
