  • I hope we-all will love our dogs more from this time forward. It’s too hard to make up for time lost when they’re gone.

    I know, mine’s gone too.

    Condolences from Santa Cruz.

I haven’t had pets since I was a kid, but I watched cancer take both my parents. Mom was diagnosed four months prior, and was relatively comfortable up to the end. She didn’t need to go into the hospice until the weekend prior.

Dad got esophageal cancer, and decided to get his esophagus removed. Other than relearning how to swallow, he seemed to be past it until a routine post-op exam discovered that it had spread. He went on chemo, but stayed at home. About two weeks prior we knew it was imminent, but it wasn’t until the last 24 hours that he went downhill. Still, he had watched his best friend die from diabetic complications, so I think he knew he dodged a bullet.

For both of them, it seemed as gentle a passing as any of us can hope for, and while it may be small comfort, Lady seemed to have the same blessing. My Condolences.
