"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

Ignored a wave-off? Velly velly bad man.
is that FSX? You can get Flight Deck 6 from Abacus (www.abacuspub.com) to get the Hawkeye and movable CVs…..

Translation from Paddles jibberish, please?
Geez, Bryon…he can’t see…what to you think he’s saying?
If I know pilot talk, I can guess at what the Fs mean.. I wish there was a translator for LSO summaries. I’m a plane geek, but come on.
There’s more than one story out there of guys getting lost going from NUW to OLF-C.
As for a good carrier sim, the best I’ve ever found was Jane’s F/A-18.
No autothrottles, but other than that, it was really good. And it would stick you in a marshall stack for night recoveries.

-: No Grade
B: Bolter
PATAFU: Pattern All Fouled Up
_HFWUAA-X_: High Fast Wrapped Up Angling Approach to Start (Underlined = extreme)
_PNU.HCDTL_: Pull Nose Up on High Come Down To Land (underline)
_FAW_: Fast All the Way
I mighta graded it:

Just goes to show that waving, like flyin’, is as much an art as a science.
Interesting insight into the driver’s seat….If you feel it was like a “flashback ” CAP, it must be pretty damn accurate….Glad to have a peek into what it must have been like…
Zane, the LSO calls in the mission are very inaccurate (due to FSX limitations and those in the FLOLS as shown). More for fun than realism. All that spaghetti on the HUD is ignored for just what can be gleaned from AoA Indexer (which can get in the way) and ‘meatball, line up and airspeed’. Never having even been close to a Hornet I would ignore auto throttle! However if there is realism to be had in FSX then the ‘SLUDGE’ Hornet free addon makes the unflyable default Hornet into what appears to be the real deal. That was actually 3min19secs of sheer terror.
Thanks for the ‘grading’ RazNoze. I’ll take copious notes.
xformed, the Flight Deck series for FSX Accel Fsim is not very good (or worse). You would be surprised at the realism of FSX Accel with the free NavAv addons now available, carriers, IFLOL gauges and the ‘SLUDGE’ Hornet with see through HUD. The FSX Accelerator Addon is a good start made hugely better with the free addons available now. Nothing more to pay…
Here’s a very nice trip round the boat in FSX I found on YouTube:

XB, also there are some excellent ‘made by Sludge’ tutorials on Utube. There are different sized formats of this same ‘OK 3′ FSX NavAv tutorial around, original here: http://fsxblueangels.com/videoscreen%20ok3.html
You gotta have real courage to take off and land at night.
Check out this URL for the story of Butch O’Hare, first US Navy ace, MOH recipient and central to the development of carrier night fighting in WWII.

27 Nov 1943 was a sad night.
For the Hawkeye version, just turn off your monitor and keep flying.
The daylight trip around the carrier was cool, but too many bells and whistles for me.
Now I know why I was just a ground pounder.

I didn’t realize carrier aviation had a command line and a shell script! Can’t you simply SUDO Land -Hornet? ;^)

Does real Horneet pilot use autothrottle during arrested landing?
Well, I can’t speak for every Hornet pilot, but I certainly did. Religiously. You’ve got to keep three things in parameters, angle of attack, glideslope and line-up. When you used autothrottles you combined AOA and glideslope, so then you only had two things to deal with.
Worked pretty well for me.
slacker.
It’s new for me, thanks! And yes, I’ve noticed jumping rate-of-des and dancing ILS, I think it’s not the best way to approach the carrier.
“DLC.”

I wish. I’m in a cardboard box under the overpass.
