TRAP

More info is leaking out about the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) mission executed in Libya last month:

As that back door opened, I see a group of young Marine recon units jump out, and that was probably the best feeling I’ve ever felt in my entire life,’ Major Harney said on a USAF prepared video.

That’s a pretty good way to tell if you’re one of the good guys or not, by the way: If you’re happy to see a group of Force Recon Marines bundle out of a helicopter, you’re one of the good guys.
If you’re terrified and try to run away, you’re one of the bad guys. And you’ll just die tired.

OOHRAH! Saving other people’s bacon since 1775.

  • That was the long hand way to say “No better friend….”

Reminds me of a few years back when I followed a friend when he was taking his son (member of the Marine Rapid Response Anti-Terrorist Team) back to Norfolk so that we could drive the sons car back to Charlotte.

I spent a few moments in the barracks chatting with the guys -they most eagerly and fervently wanted to be our enemies “Huckleberry”. Quite focused they were.

I think someone’s going to have to get a new (PC) call sign this year. Too bad.

    God Bless the USMC!

Now hopefully Major Harney did NOT run toward the Marines with his gun drawn…

I must be getting old or suffering from Bombay-itis but didn’t the first news say “mechanical” and NOT “shot down”? If they were shot down what happened to our vaunted SEAD? Manpads get ‘em? Lead bullets?

But in any event good on the USMC team. “Die tired’ is right.

Deeper in the article it says the USAF is still investigating, and Major Harney says “they found themselves in a situations where they were forced to eject”

Point is – shot down is news paper headline fluff.

Shifty and G-Man: Ditto. This is a classic Daily Mail (UK tabloid) aka Daily `Wail` headline, but the story stand up well whatever. As a Brit with 2 USMC in the extended family I was chuffed to read this story.

Just for the record, it was an MV-22 OSPREY and not a “helicopter.” You remember the “troubled V-22?” The fleet of them just passed the 100,000 hour mark.
