Dig… into the county’s wish list and you find other gems. It wants more state aid to localities, and opposes any funding cuts (“erosions of the social safety net”) that might leave localities on the hook for Medicaid costs. Translation: Let’s have lots of health care, paid for by someone else. There’s limousine liberalism in a nutshell. As George Mason University’s Bryan Caplan once explained, “The wealthy but uncharitable socialist ceases to be a mystery once you understand relative prices. Voluntary charity is costly to the giver, but voting for charity … is virtually free.”
Well, as Lady Thatcher once said, eventually you run out of other peoples’ money.
**sigh** Sometimes I despair of my neighbors…I’ve see this hypocrisy up close, while volunteering in local politics, and supporting those local candidates that I can agree with; only “seven of the 10 members” county board of supervisors are limousine liberals…
But it sure is a fun spree until it runs out!
Prime reasons I hate N VA so much. Too many of these nanny state morons for my tastes. That they are mostly living off the public dole via government funded jobs adds to the disgust.
Retired from active duty into “FairTAX” county. While it does have probably the highest property tax rate over other local jurisdictions, we do get a fair return in county services. Schools are always highly rated; roads and infrastructure relatively well maintained. But yes, the couty commissioners talk and vote from their own world. The voting population is at the extrmemes – highest per-capital federal employees and very high per-capita minorities – both consistent liberal supporters. Low per-capita military – whose housing allowances push them south to Prince William and Spotsylvania. But at least we’re a tad better off than our neighbors in Maryland!
Progressive scum run the place. It’s no surprise it’s in the condition it is.
