Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

Nod indeed.
The same audience may also recognize the following 2 hour recitation of “Boots”. They may nod but for an altogether different reason. And grab rags pig. I’ve been looking for this version for a while now…

A floor show and a pair of pliers in the cockpit.
I always got sent to the SANDBOX and missed out on the fun in Phillipines…although there were quite a few of the girls on the ground in Bahrain & the UAE, working hard for the $$$$.
I was waiting outside a UAE hotel before heading to the airfield one evening…two lovely ladies of oriental persuaion came out, one tall & dressed in a form fitting white dress and the other shorter but cute in her own right.
I said, ” Good evening , Ladies..”
The tall girl asked me, ” You like to party ? We like to party.”
I told them I was on my way to work.
The Tall Girl replied, ” You want phone number for later?”
I took their card and they left in a taxi….I saw the doorman who spoke very little english and said, ” Are they here often?”
He struggled and said, ” How you Americans say it….Outsell.”
I knew he meant ” outcall ” but I chuckled to myself and said, ” I have heard it called many things…but that’s a new one to me…outsell.”
In Budapest a few year’s back, a snowy eve. I left the family in the apartment to get something from the local Christmas Market (still open), and along the allee was approached by simply gorgeous Hungarian woman looking for a hotel that was supposed to be nearby, where her friends were. She spoke English well, was amazed that I knew the city where she came from in the south of the country, and wanted to take me to the hotel with her. Alas, I had a family to take care of, and she understood.
The next night another woman approached me on that same allee, not nearly so good looking, asking for the same hotel. I know I’m not that handsome…
Being of beyond a certain age, I recall a Cathay Pacific flight in the mid 1970′s that went Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo. Cathay hired good looking ladies from all over Asia for its flight crews. Each flight attendant wore a little lapel pin with the national flag of her country. I had a 6′ 7″ 260 pound good old boy from Oklahoma traveling with me on the flight. We were in the first class cabin (ah the good old days) and well plied with booze. Which prompted the good ol’ boy to gaze lasciviously at each of the ladies, and then turn to me saying “Ah thaank ah’m in luvv with that little orangutang”. Politically correct he wasn’t. But I could understand the thought. They were good lookin’ young ladies.
NewsFlash: Internet has been won for balance of day.
My 11 year old just got a big kick out of that. Multiple reasons I ‘spose.
Oh yeah, LBFM’s…”you officer, you buy me honda” Time re-import the Cubi Bar from the museum.
It has been many a year since I heard the term LBFM
. Here is t
o the good old days!
“Peelings?” ….. Yes, nodding knowingly.
WESTPAC sailors of a certain age will nod, knowingly.
As do Zoomies of a certain age, as well. I don’t think Olongapo had a THING on Angeles City.
Knodding knowingly here also… Angeles was my first PI experience (Navy squadron flying AF planes). Many deployments to Sangley Pt and Cubi thereafter. Could’a had orders to a VR at Cubi but turned them down. No way was I taking my wife and teenage daughter there.
Ditto!
In December 1988-January 1989, we did a training/liberty float from Okinawa to the Philippines and then Hong Kong. It was amazing what you could get for spent brass at the Green Beach Training Area.
Things have not changed much from the 70s, trust me.
Ah yes, Angeles City.
In the day, PSA had the best looking flirts in hot pants that ever worked a flight.
Greetings:
Well. at least they didn’t start kissing each other.
‘Peelings’ another ersatz cover band from the ‘bilipines’?
lol
Paul
What do you call the two Philipino pilots up front?
You knew I was going to take the time to comment.
This whole story, in general and in each of our personal memories is what brings real meaning to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
I dunno. I spent all my time snorkeling off the reef at E-Beach.
Oh, and one weekend we went to Grande Island.
Yup. And we worked the flight line a lot. Not much time off for liberty.
Everything was so expensive I just didn’t go out in town.
So tell me what you did while I was overseas, honey, I’m sure that is a lot more interesting.
…amazing…similar situation here…
…” why…Sweet Cheeks…I was so damn good at it that I spent my entire year in RVN on long range patrol stalking the wiley Cong deep in Indian Country and only stood down to take an occasional shower, tend to my leach bites, catch up on my Bible studies and clean my weapon…”
…thats my story and I’m sticking to it. Best
PS. Merry Christmas all
One of my sailors talked to her dad after she returned from Thailand. Her dad was stationed there during the Vietnam War. She said, “Dad, I just got back from Thailand.” there was a pause… “Shhh don’t tell your mother.” We all died. I think one of my guys actually retired and set up a “bar” in Thailand. I am not certain if it is in Phuket or Pattaya.
Olongapo? Nope, doesn’t ring a bell…
+1 good times back then. Several times in Cubi with the VP navy. Saw a Filipino cover band in Bahrain at the end of GWI, “Peelings,” was the song…
Yes, but they are SO good at covering tunes:

The new singer for Journey is a Pinay.
Ahh the P.I. Brings back memories of a Christmas Westpac/I.O. Cruise in ’87. At least a G rated memory. A squadron mate and I were tasked to produce cruise T-shirts. Couple of days prior to Cubi we come up with a nice Santa sleigh motif and once inport we go to find a local craftsman to produce our wares. We’re sent to a man who looks at our drawing of Santa and we immediately get the OK thumbs up. He seems puzzled by the animals pulling the sleigh though. “Reindeer, they’re reindeer”, we say. We received a slightly less than enthusiastic OK thumbs up but cash was exchanged for promises of T-shirts via FPO in a few weeks. Fast forward to mail call in the I.O. My buddy and I haul box after box to our stateroom in anticipation of selling to a captive audience of several thousand sailors. We open the first box to inspect our wares and….well we got Santa, and a sleigh, and 8 tiny GOATS out in front. They sold like hotcakes anyway. Merry Christmas to all.
Yup – we used to always say stuff was NKR (Not Kwite Right)…custom uniforms with pockets that were only half-normal depth, etc., etc. A great place and some really good times.
