    One vacation to the eastern half (dive trip, Sydney, Melbourne, the “G” omega station – honest – we were driving around and there it was) years ago & two visits to Freemantle/Perth – had to get the flight deck redone mid-cruise so we were there awhile!

    20 OZ pints; nice beaches, great wine & food. Someone also told me the ladies were pretty – I’m married so I’ll have to take their word for it.

    Family friend took us a Melbourne game on that visit. Still trying to figure out the rules. Even the kids cuss in the stands!

    Worked with an Aussie we were having a beer after a long day slaving over a hot insturment panel. He is pilot service for a local King Air owner, I had been flying back country in the Salmon river canyon. First hot day of the year we not having any women at home,decided to quaff a few a the local taven/pizza place. The place was filled with Biker types. We left them alone they left us alone helped my next door neighbor, a biker was there with his ‘ol lady.
    The ‘ol Lady was one of these bike babes that FILLED her
    tank top.in comes an already drunk group of Cowboys.
    pretty soon the place erupts in a fair to midding bar fight.
    My Aussie friend stood up and said”the door Mate,is that way-I got yer back!” We proceeded to punch and shove our way out-before cops got there. My conclusion:
    1.Aussies are good in a fight.
    2.having one cover you in that fight is even better.
    3. Never drink beer with an Aussie-expecting to drink him under the table…

    The most fun I ever had in Vegas was drinking with 4 Aussies at the Sin City Brewery in the Venetian/Palazzo!

    35 days TDY in Brisbane (Tandem Thrust)…biggest scam opportunity to exceed during my time in what was at the time the world’s second largest nuclear Navy. Friendly people, friendly women!

    Been 44 years, but the 7 days & nights I spent in Sydney on R&R in ’68 is STILL one of my better memories. Of course was a different Australia then, more like America in early to mid 50s..

      SJS, your woes about Carter ARE AS OF NOTHING compared to what he did to the USAF when he shut down the Columbia Club O-Club/hotel in London for “reasons of economy.” :)

    I have read that Oz’s Prime Minister got mobbed at an Australia Day celebration, and had to be hustled out of there by the security guys. Apparently she threw a shoe during the hooraw. I hope she doesn’t go lame from that and they have to shoot her.
