Outside magazine just ran an article on BASE jumping. http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/aerial-sports/Oh-Chute.html 180 deaths since 1981. You couldn’t pay me to try it, and I doubt I’d want to take photos of it either. There was a guy standing near where he hit, what if the jumper had hit the spectator and taken HIM over the side with no chute? Whoops.
Take a look at his twitter…he’s pretty positive and downplays the whole thing. Like he just got scratched.

You gotta give him this…. the speed of his reflexes and presence of mind to deploy his chute while in what HAS TO BE sheer blinding and debilitating pain.
I’d bet his life insurance agent is still in the cardiac ICU right beside his medical insurance underwriter.

Oh my god! I got home and started watching “Real Sports” which I had recorded the other day to see the interview with Leigh Steinberg. Guess who the third segment is about? The flying guy in the video, Jeb Corliss. I guess that’s the HBO documentary mentioned. What a co-inky dink.
You can get insurance for most anything, just depends on how much you’re willing to pay. He’s jumped a lot of mountains, without much in the way of serious accidents, which would likely reduce his premiums

Hey, not to worry. Once Obamacare kicks in, we will all get to pay for the consequences of high risk behavior like this. Probably not this one, since it occurred outside the US.
Having said that, that fact isn’t any different with our current employer provided system, only that the risk pool of high risk behaviors is probably greater among those who are not employed full time.
