Captain Carroll “Lex” Lefon, USN (ret) will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. The funeral will be at the Fort Rosencrans chapel on March 27th at 1:00pm. The “Mighty Shrikes” of VFA-94, the squadron that Lex commanded, will conduct a fly-over.
The family has graciously invited Lex’s many friends and fans here [...]
I mourn the passing of a great naval aviator, a professional analyst of all things naval, and a soulful and compelling writer of poetry and prose – Ray Mabus, SecNav.

When Lex “left the keys in it” for me to be a guest blogger here about a year ago, we didn’t discuss what to do in this occasion. I am at a loss. I did feel the need to provide one place for your tributes and condolences to collect. So here it is.
As [...]
AG Eric Holder attempts to explain a few of the circumstances under which your government might kill you:
“Given the nature of how terrorists act and where they tend to hide, it may not always be feasible to capture a United States citizen terrorist who presents an imminent threat of violent attack,” Mr. Holder [...]
I supposed it had to happen eventually, everybody has one in time. And I had mine yesterday.
It was a good hop, really. Raging around down low, hiding in the mountains, waiting for a chance to pounce on the unwary. Although this is graduation week at the (prestigious) Navy Fighter Weapons School, and there [...]
Retired Army Colonel Van Barfoot is one of only five native Americans to have been awarded the Medal of Honor, which he received for destroying three German machine gun positions, one tank and one artillery tube during the Anzio breakout. For that alone his name ought to have been famous, taught in history books, [...]
It’s a bipartisan affair, according to Kristen Powers. Prosecution is rather spotty, however:
Did you know there is a war on women?
Yes, it’s true. Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Matt Taibbi, and Ed Schultz have been waging it for years with their misogynist outbursts. There have been boycotts by people on the [...]
Worth watching, if you haven’t already seen it.
Kinda spooky. If you’re a starfish.
And self-aware.
Extended treatment here.
So, you know: Breitbart was a happy warrior. Which made those he warred against unhappy. Thus the hate, which of course he earned. By being happy.
Except:
Somewhere in my archives, which I’m still having trouble accessing, is a collection of “liberal” commentary on Tony Snow’s death that I caught as word came in [...]

Credo "Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier
