Captain Carroll “Lex” Lefon, USN (ret) will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. The funeral will be at the Fort Rosencrans chapel on March 27th at 1:00pm. The “Mighty Shrikes” of VFA-94, the squadron that Lex commanded, will conduct a fly-over.
The family has graciously invited Lex’s many friends and fans here at Neptunus Lex to attend. Their only request is that you consider carpooling due to limited parking at Fort Rosencrans.
Lex’s former employer, ATAC, is coordinating a charity that will be accepting donations in lieu of flowers. When details about charities and scholarship funds become available, they will be posted on Neptunus Lex. ATAC’s latest press release can be found here.
Condolences can be mailed to:

With all of the hoorah, and yahoos, and doodahs around this place today, I have not felt really free to commemorate the Captain’s passing until just now.
I decided to sing the Navy Hymn to myself. I did OK, until I got to the last, or Aviators’ verse, and then I just lost it and started sobbing. The housemates will just have to put up with the noise. I don’t care what others think, in respect of this.
Am only an acquaintance of Lex. Arrived early, there was an Aegis cruiser abeam Fort Rosecrans, heading for sea. Seemed they were unknowingly paying last respects to Lex.
A gentleman clad in Scottish kilt played “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes as the national ensign was presented to Mrs. LeFon. This was particularly moving. The fly-over was performed by an F-18 and Kfir. Those that were unable to attend were in our thoughts. Mrs. LeFon could not ask for a more beautiful setting in which to visit Lex in the future.
Glad to know that, Sir. If we can’t have a full band, bagpipes will do right well, when it comes to appropriate martial/Christian music. And yes, Our Captain was a right martial and muscular sort of Christian.
Oh, and if I have forgotten to do so earlier, I would send my most earnest and heartfelt condolences to Mrs. LeFon and the kids, and assure them that my eyeballs, too, are well lubricated, though this is a very expensive way to do that. When I write “expensive”, I am not writing about money.
San Diego channel 10 has the following video
up on him and his memorial service.

Nice. Thanks for the link.
It was a beautiful day for Lex’s ceremony overlooking N.A.S. North Island and San Diego. A very nice ceremony with many people paying their respects. The video linked, above, shows it well.
There’s a detailed report here as well: http://www.thedonovan.com/archives/2012/03/yesterday_capta.html
Beth understates the report she’s linked to above. While detailed, it’s so very much more. Go, read.
htom is correct. Fuzzy made me feel all better.
Agreed that report is worth the time…
That San Diego weather was incredible.
I’d like to think Lex knew…
To those of you who I met at the service and reception for Capt. Carroll (Lex) LeFon, it was a pleasure to talk with you (although I greatly wish that we had not had that opportunity). Mary and SNO made every effort to meet and thank each person at the reception who they did not previously know, as well as their friends there. The warmth and graciousness of both of them made it that much more clear to me the kind of man Lex was.
I must make special mention that I found myself talking with a gentleman who turned out to be flit. This brought me great joy as I had crossed vitrual swords with him in the past. However, as I had been coming to understand earlier, he is very much a person who I am proud to be able to call friend. It was an honor to meet him and a number of others who I had come to be aware of in these spaces provided to us by our leader, Lex.
Beth: Thank you for your wonderful description of the service and reception. You too have a nice way with words.

Paul,
Not sure if we talked or not, I talked with as many as I could but thanks for coming. It was a wonderful rememberance of a truely great man. Mary is truely an outstanding woman.
I promise to spread the word where ‘er I go, “Gunniess for Strength… Jameson for Courage”
SC P8:
If you talked with a short fat guy wearing a blue sports coat, gray slacks, a white polo-type shirt with jump wings on the coat, that would have been me.
Paul
All I can say is what many others here quite likely think – “I wish I could have been there.”
[...] are now more than 1600 comments on this memorial thread, and another 200+ here…many of them quite eloquent, such as this [...]
In another thread someone mentioned a Facebook page for Lex’s sycophants and thier ilk. Could one of you please email a link to me? Email is subdjoe@gmail.com.
Thanks, folks.
I’m STILL somewhat in shock over his death. Younger than I am, seeming to have life by the tail, and then, suddenly, all snatched away. Guess maybe St. Michael the Archangel needed a new flight leader.
Sometimes I think, if only he’d taken pause after that brake chute mishap the day before.
Joe – email on the way
What can a I say, Skipper? I hope where ever you are they’ve got plenty of gas. And that you’re burning through it.
Thank you, Lex, for letting us see the world through your eyes, and for opening your life, your heart to all of us through this blog.
We might have lost our friend and mentor, but we still have each other, and the mission still goes on.
Mark the place of his loss on the chart, and close up formation.
+1 Tim.
I miss the daily posts and the people I have met here, I hope there is something permanent that is established.
