We’re off!
So, here goes nothing.
It’s not a wiki really, since no one gets to alter anyone else’s posts. But registration and posting priviliges are free for the asking. On the footer at the bottom of the page is a “login” link, which will take you to the WordPress front-end. First time users should hit the “Register” link, which will ask you for user name and email address. A randomly generated password will be sent to your email box, and once you’ve gone back to the login page you’ll have posting privileges. Holler at me if any of the codework seems abstruse, for the most part it’s pretty straightforward. As a “contributor” you can’t do much in the way of under-the-hood damage, so don’t fret about that.
I feel a bit like I’m showing some thigh here, but you’ve all been decent readers over the years so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I’m keeping the rule set short at first (and keeping this post at the top for a bit):
- Be kind to one another, and mind the language.
- Don’t sell stuff.
Apart from that, you’re free to post links to your home blogs, things that interest you (and won’t embarrass the sea services) and whatever suits your mood. The rules may grow in time, but if we’re as decent here as we tend to be at home, there shouldn’t be a problem.
Recommendations for widgets and functionality are welcome.
Let’s have some fun.

This is cool! I must’ve read your suggestion in a hurry, ’cause I didn’t realize it would be this extensive. Very nice!
Of course, now we have to see who is brave enough to do the first post…

I just went back and re-read the post where you proposed this. I’m a little confused, now… is this supposed to be a place for people to just introduce themselves, or is this something like Castle Argghhh! where about 20 “Denizens” have posting privileges in both “H&I Fires” as well as an individual post?

Both, sorta. I had meant to have an intro page, and then when I started tinkering it became an open portal.
So, you know: Run wild. Have fun. And so on.

Okay. I think I get it. As far as an “intro,” how about maybe an 8th category–”Bios?”

Good call. Bios, and maybe a page to go with it.

OK, everybody’s commenting, but nobody’s posting. Guess it’s up to an ol’ Chief to get things started. Ya’ll hold on!

Amazing…I actually got logged in at this ungodly hour of the morning. Of course, since the grandson and the dogs are staying, and one of them is a puppy, I had to do a wee bit of cleanup…AFTER I got my coffee going
I’ll figure out how to work up a post after I’ve had some coffee in my system.
Thank you, Lex, I consider this an honor and a priviledge.

Agree on the bios – I wasn’t sure how much to write in (pro’ly wrote way more than I shoulda – oh well), but I’m looking forward to getting a sense of everyone else’s experience. That alone should generate discussions.
Like the name, too, Lex.
