Waterspout

Wonder if the Burke can outrun the waterspout?

Byron, those are incredible shots! Curiosity question for Lex (or anyone else here!) – have we ever had one of our ships tangle with a waterspout? How often is it even a danger?

Amazing photos.

Great pics – creepy sky (looks like tornado weather in AL) & weird looking water – 1st two pics, not so much in the last one except for the waterspout of course. SOL did good on these!

Actually, he didn’t take these…buddy of his got it passed to him via email to his squadron, VS-32. As a matter of fact…give me a couple of minutes, to add something to that article…

We had a close encounter of the soiled skivvies kind with a waterspout many moons ago. She came down right off the starboard bow and we took her all the way down starboard while falling off as fast as we could. Raised hell with just about everything on deck and rocked us a bit but luckily no major damage. We were only pushing 600′ feet too so it was interesting.

I did have to change my drawers though! Heh!

The one in the pic can be tracked by the Burke’s weather radar I imagine and would pose no threat. It’s when they drop on you that they create problems. Pucker up buttercup because things get tight. Real quick! ;-)

Nice pics — of course the fact it happens of my personal favorite in carriers helps too ;)
