Upgraded

We’ve just upgraded the back end to WordPress 2.2.1, in case you can’t tell. I don’t know that you’ll see many significant changes to your user interface, but do drop me a note is something isn’t just the way it ought to be.

Should be a bit snappier on the front end load, and if you want to preview a post before submitting it you’ll see a “Preview” link at the top right of the post once you’ve hit “Save and Continue Editing” – it used to auto-preview, but that took time and sometimes hung up.

Have fun!

Oh, and just by the way – if you’re going to excerpt or quote extensively from another person’s post for analysis purposes, please remember to use the “Blockquote” feature, as well as sending a trackback. Under the emerging “fair use” standard in the blogosphere, if you’re going to use anything more than about half the other person’s post you ought to just link to it instead.

Hey Lex – love the new Flight Deck, but there are some dupes when I look at it. The blogroll is repeated on both sides of the screen, as are the categories, calendar and archives.

And I tried to put up a post tonite with a photo – but instead of the usual “Full Size” or “Thumbnail” choices, there is only Full Size.

Not to be too picky, but I do kind of miss the “Home” button that use to sit up top. It just made navigating around a litle quicker.

Just realized something.
We seem to have lost the link for the Biographies page?

Lex, tried to upload a photo again this morning and the error I reported yesterday was MY mistake. My original image size was just too big to convert to a thumbnail. Problem solved and image is now there.

Enjoy btw, more to follow. And I might be willing to cut a “publishing deal” with you for use of the photos. Just kidding – if you like anything you see in the coming days, you just give me a shout and it’s yours.

I respectfully submit that the trackback feature be used with extreme caution. Evidence to date suggests that it is the functional equivalent of opening the screen door during supper — the atmosphere is less confined but a very large percentage of the guests attracted by the smell aren’t exactly wanted.

Yeah, I know, professional courtesy and all should take precedence over sheer reader comfort. Still, this is the unbearable lightness of Lex, and there are standards of propriety to be adhered to. Perhaps if it is too much to ask the guests to wipe their feet prior to entering your home we should be more cautious in extending invitations?

– Max
