Friday Recommendation
OK, so this post isn’t about the military, politics, plane pr0n or current events. But hey, it’s Friday and sometimes we need something more than that in our lives.
We went to see Chris Botti (pronounced Boat’-ee) in concert last nite. We’ve had the privilege of seeing him before and he NEVER disappoints. He is the silkiest trumpet player out there today – the best since Miles Davis. Smooth. He never hurries a single note – takes his time and makes that trumpet do more than play the notes – it really sings. Botti pours emotion into every song – from the mellow and tear-worthy “Someone to Watch Over Me” to a funked out version of “When I Fall in Love”. He plays mostly jazz standards – but he always puts a new twist on the familiar.
If you’ve never heard him – go HERE for a list of his decade of recordings. And go HERE to my favorite of his CDs – “When I Fall in Love”. Scroll down the page and select the sample of “Cinema Paradiso” – it is heart-achingly good.
