What is the opposite of “bleg”?

As of tomorrow, I will no longer be an Ensign.  24 months of fogging an mirror and not getting court-martialed tends to do that.

In any case, I am in possession of a handful of Ensign accouterments looking for a good home.  4 hard shoulder-boards, 4 soft shoulder-boards, 6 small collar devices and 4 epaulet devices.  All in very good condition, as I only wore them one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year for 2 years.  The only ones I’m keeping are the collar bars that my father wore when he was an Ensign.

Mine were passend down to me by my good friend and mentor, and I thought I’d continue the tradition.  Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone who will be commissioned anytime soon.

Does anyone out there know of someone in ROTC, OCS, DCO, (or even the Academy) that may need them?  I’ll mail them wherever they need to go.  My fitreps were pretty good as far as Ensign fitreps go, so maybe they have some sort of good mojo.

Just leave me a note in the comments, and I’ll email you back.

Jeop,

Congratulations. As my Maint Master Chief used to say “Now you’ve been promoted as many times as a Seaman Apprentice.”

Just one piece of advice:

When speaking to anyone in the Air Force on the phone, refer to yourself as “Lieutenant Junior Grade” and say it fast. They aren’t that familiar, and there is always the chance you said “Lieutenant General” and THAT scares the snot out of them. You can get pretty much anything you need out of them. Once in Panama, a USAF Captain walked a briefing book a couple of blocks to our ready room “to save you the trip, Sir.” Should have seen the look on his face when I took it from him and thanked him. Thought the guys I was flying with were going to have a heart attack they were laughing so hard.

BZ Jep! Not too bad for 74 days active duty. What’s TIG for the next promotion?

You’re going about it wrong, pard. You’re looking for someone to give them away to you when you should be trying to find someone who deserves them.

Find somebody, hopefully somebody that works for you that has the potential but doesn’t believe yet. Make him/her believe. Show them the way. Get them across the gate. And then, when they get commissioned, pass along your boards and butter bars.

And then pass along this: Find someone who deserves these. Someone who has the potential but doesn’t believe yet. And so on.

Another 24 months, unkawill. Then LT. I’ll be at 18 years when I go up for LCDR the first time.

Lex,
You’re absolutely right (as usual) and expressed that better than I could have. I was hoping that one of the other folks around here knew someone that deserves them.

I’ve already saved a few of the more durable items for my own distribution later.
