In all seriousness I think there is something to be said for the old fashioned way of writing someone. Before IM and email, one had to carefully choose what to write (or not) taking into account the fact that the reader might not lay eyes on it until 4-6 weeks hence.

Luddite! ;)

In all seriousness, though, I still have reams and reams of letters The Second Mrs. Pennington and I wrote to each other during our courtship in 1975 - 1977 (we married in '78). I spent a lot of that time deployed (I was on a traveling radar installations team at the time), and we wrote each other every single day...no exaggeration at all. And some of those letters are quite lengthy, running to ten or more pages.

I hope our son reads them some day, and further hope he understands just how we came to know and understand each other, and how our love developed. Before it all fell apart some 20+ years later, anyway...

And once again: Congrats! 25 years together in this day is a significant accomplishment.

Kris:

In all seriousness I think there is something to be said for the old fashioned way of writing someone. Before IM and email, one had to carefully choose what to write (or not) taking into account the fact that the reader might not lay eyes on it until 4-6 weeks hence. It also lent itself to a longer form of prose and a writing habit that was more narrative in nature, which in turn, provided insight to the reader as to the nature of their correspondent.

Alas, another casualty in this day of instant communications... :(

Congrats, SJS, to you and the missus. Ours has reached its 31st year this summer -- time flies when you're having fun!

Our marriage started roughly the same way - I set up the date thru a mutual friend...here we are 24 years later. SJS, maybe we are onto something for a new dating service!!! ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS!

At our command's last dining in, my unit wore choker whites with pith helmets. We marched into the O club while whistling the "Bridge on the River Kwai" march.

'twas for our community gatehring (Hawkeye ball) and that (sky blue) was one of our squadron colors. In other squadrons it was a dark blue (one year we had the right side of our bowtie painted to match the tailflash on the a/c), others it was gold. All in good fun. Ask Skippy about the Seabats at their first Hawkeye ball after being stood-up.

At more formal (read: Boring) events, the black tie/gold cummerbund were deployed/employed accordingly. Usually those were functions run by 'shoes... ;)

Congrats on 25.
I have to ask; what's the deal with the baby blue bow tie with the Dinner Dress White Jacket? NAVPERS 15665I, section 3501.36 states that the tie is black, no?
