Oops!

Hmm…..You gotta wonder. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge in the field can enlighten us. One thing for sure…this doesn’t make me feel real secure.

Forum I frequent with a lot of active duty folks on it seems to think that the paperwork snafu may have happened higher up the chain and that the ammo guys and flight crew knew what they were doing and have the proper paperwork to back it up. While at one level this makes sense, as I find it hard to believe that ammo troops and/or flight crew would load up and mount up without knowing what they had on board, the idea of relatively nonchalantly loading up nukes on board a B-52 seems a little weird. It seems to me that it would be a pretty big event to load up a BUFF with W80s; on top of that, there’s the fact that the ACMs were being transported for decommissioning.

Lots of questions.

SN1 tells me there’s LOTS of buzz amongst the troops, even the fighter types, about this incident. And we’ll never really know what happened. We’ll get some sort of narrative after the investigation is completed, true. But due to security reasons (and I have NO quibbles here), we’ll get a 50K foot view…and that’s it.

This incident is about as serious as incidents get, without people actually, ya know…dying.
