Update from Camp Anaconda

Once again, it is my honor to give you a brief update from Unkawill – written October 4th:

I have really been burning the midnight oil over here lately.  Tonight the boss turned us loose early – 0200 vs. 0700.  We had gotten all of our work done by 2100 and were just sitting around yakking. After we got back from lunch, he called an all hands meeting. There are about 150 of us that work the night shift that weren’t out on a mission. I am thinking – “Oh no, who screwed up this time!”  Well, he started complimenting us on our work the last couple of weeks and said that we deserved a little reward and to get the hell out of Dodge till tomorrow night!

Good – now I can catch up on some sleep! :-)

I have now been on 9 successful missions - the first one was the most exciting and that one was boring as hell.  I have been reading a lot; currently Clancy’s, “Every Man A Tiger” about the Desert Shield Air War, with General Chuck Horner, and the new issue of “The Economist” (gotta keep up on current events, ya know).  I just can’t do that on 30 min’s of comp time a day.

Dear Unkawill – God, I wish you the best. Please pass on to everyone you know that we all wish you a successful deployment and a safe trip home. If you are there for an extended stay, please send me your mailing address so Op Gratitude can send you and your compatriots a holiday package.
I recognize you as a long time poster at Lex’s site. Maybe you recognize me? Please contact me through Lex. Our org. would like very much to send you a holiday package.
I understand that you are not currently in the military. That’s OK. I would still like to send you a holiday package.

Babs, That is so sweet of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I gave serious thought to reenlisting in the Army last June, when my niece Helen, asked me to sit in on a meeting with her Recruiter, so I could tell her if she was getting the Truth from him, about Army life.
One thing led to another, and as we were talking, he pitched ME!
Well to say the least, I was Honored that he thought I was Enlistable material, At 46 and not in the best of shape.

Three things, in my mind, held me back from going for it.
1. I would have to go through Boot Camp and follow on training, again, for the THIRD time.
I didn’t think my body, specifically my knees, could handle it.
2. I would be taking orders from Troops young enough to almost be my Grand children.
3. It would be a Massive pay cut.

With all of the above, I still wanted to do my part to support the troops. So here I am, Back for my second tour.
