Altruism Looks Like This…

besmaya.jpgThey can barely afford to feed and clothe their families, yet the Iraqi Army, in Besmaya, has donated $1,000 US to help victims of the San Diego wildfires.

The money was collected from Iraqi officers and enlisted soldiers in Besmaya. In a speech given during the presentation, Col. Abbass stated that he and the Iraqi soldiers were connected with the American people in many ways, and they will not forget the help that the American government has given the Iraqi people.

Back when Katrina hit, I was a regular reader of a blog of a National Guardsman from MS. The Iraqis who worked with them did the same thing, and although not nearly as large a donation as this, it hit those MS guys right in the heart. The salaries (when they were paid) for the Iraqis were atrociously low and it was a financial sacrifice for them. Some of them do appreciate what has been done for them…
