Foobert

Spent my grade school years on an airport. My father is a CFI and when he wasn’t designing avionics for Bendix, he gave flight instruction and jumped out of perfectly good airplanes, just for the fun of it. I always new I’d be pilot one day.

Had quite a change in scenery when we moved to a small town in Idaho where I learned the value of hard work on the farm, not to mention a healthy bit of mechanical inclination. In high school I had grand visions of being a fighter pilot and my sights were set on getting into the Air Force Academy. But as luck would have it, a trip to the ophthalmologist dashed that dream, and I say luck as I later learned that my first problem was not my eyes — no, it was aspiring to join the ranks of the second tier of fighter pilots. I do hope this group will forgive my naivety.

Ended up rather accidentally following closely in my father’s footsteps by getting a degree in electrical engineering; now I design micro-chips for a networking company in the Silly Con Valley. I did indeed become a pilot and I do my share of “bug smashing” every chance I get. A small void lingers in my soul for not following though and serving my country regardless of the (zero) possibility I might have had to get into fighters.

For fun, I enjoy breakfast, surfing, photography, flying, learning about all things military, and other activities that rightfully deserve the ‘geek’ title associated with them — but not necessarily in that order.

BZ to Lex for all his work and allowing interlopers like myself to mill about. Not that I really needed another place to waste time on the ‘net…

Born in ’73? Oh good heavens! But at least I’m a tad younger than Byron… just inside that year or two… barely… ;-)

Zoinks! Didn’t intend to start a commotion about age nor even think that being a “thirty something” would really get noticed since I’m (at least) the second person to profess it. Although, I’ll end this comment at that, seeing how it’s not very gentlemanly to put a lady on the spot with further inquiries about certain subjects… ;)
