JHD is my non de plume and is correctly A Jarhead’s Dad. Former Merchant Marine skipper in another life in both civilian and Maritime duties. Everything from running freighters to crew boats to corporate yachts.
Father of four:
1) Da Fisherman is a father of four also with our four beautiful granddaughters. He and I fish for $$$$$ on the side so call us Mercs for Fish!
2) Da Grunt is a three deployment combat NCO currently in his first year of IRR. He was 2/2 Golf although was attached with a Reserve Bn on his first float. 1st Battle of Fallujah, Mahmudiyah, Karmah etc., etc., etc. Only Bn in OIF 2 to pick up and move lock, stock, and barrel five times as a QRF force. Pulled QRF with Golf last deployment and rated his Sgt stripes.
3) Da College Boy finishes up his basic college this May. He will still have two years intern and another year med school before getting his anesthetist ticket.
4) Dink is the only daughter and the apple of her daddy’s eye! The Lovely Bride (TLB) has accused me of making her my 4th son but that is soooo far from the truth it hurts! Heh! Dink is a freshman in college and playing for pay in soccer for her school.
TLB is an amazing Lady and unbelievable Mom. She has put up with me for almost 30 years now. 29 I think and it’s a good thing she doesn’t read this stuff!

JHD, my father, may he rest in peace, was a Merchant Marine radio officer for most of his adult life. His last cruise was in the late 90′s, and he shipped out forever 3 years ago. A good portion of his work was done for Lykes Lines (Dad lived in the Big Sleazy, as a matter of fact, we were all born there, except my mom, so shipping on Lykes was par for the course).
Sounds like you have a wonderful family, and a wonderful life…which makes you just as lucky as I am
