JPR

The youngest of five, I was born, raised, educated, now living and working in the Chicago suburbs. My parents met while my dad, a Chicago south-sider and White Sox fan, was in the Army at Ft. Gordon in Georgia and my mom, a Florida native, was in nursing school.

I don’t remember how I first got to Lex’s site, but I’ve been enjoying it ever since. Thanks for having me.

I love history, especially military history, and am slowly convincing my wife to add the prefix “non” to her preferred type of books. One can dream.

Photographer by day, and night, depending on when it needs to be shot. Of late I’m doing more writing of what I see, rather than just photographing it…for a few samples of the latter, click here . Don’t worry, I’m not selling anything, and it’s clean. A work in progress.

I enjoy seeing all the different viewpoints and life experiences represented here. A nice community, this.

Nice site JPR. I especially like the “Spelling Bee” picture. Could the girl look more smug? Definitely a thousand worder.

Hey Joe (where you goin’ with that…?),

Thanks for the kind words. When covering the bee I was secretly rooting for the boy to win, but then he blew it on “hobgoblin” in the final round. Poor kid.

Very nice pictures. But that one of the Cafe Flore really hit me. Took me back quite a few years to my time travelling with a friend across Europe after my first year of college. More particularly to our time in Paris. Thanks, I think. Kind of bittersweet.
BTW, your name, you wouldn’t by chance be named after THE John Patrick Ryan, would you? LOL Sorry, couldn’t resist – I’m a big Clancy fan. But its pretty cool to actually get the chance to “meet” everybody.

Michelle, thanks, too, for the kind words. My wife and I have been there three times since ’99 and, say what you will about their government and their policies, we love it there and we’ve never encountered any snooty Parisians. Ah, for another crêpe chocolat along the Champs-Elysées. Some day, hopefully sooner rather than later.

As far as the Clancy character name, “Patriot Games” was the first of his books that I read (in high school, in about a day), and when I saw “John Patrick Ryan” I thought it was that much cooler. I have all of the Jack Ryan-centric books and a few of the others. I don’t go by Jack, btw, just the middle name–it’s a southern thing, I’ve been told.
