Ok, here are the vitals:
Born in NC, raised a Nebraskan and now a Virginian by dint of marriage, taxes and tuition(s) paid/paying (and you thought it was just death and taxes that were universal constants…)
Blessed with marriage to the same wonderful (and exceptionally tolerant)woman for 24.5 years w/three great kids (see tuition ref above)
Graduated from The Citadel, Naval Postgrad School and Naval War College where I studied Political Science and Soviet/East European Area Studies (Thesis: Between Scylla and Charybdis – US and Soviet Theater Nuclear Strategies and Forces 1945-1985) respectively as well as getting the JPME block checked
Retired as an O-6 after serving twenty-six years in the finest Navy in the world:
* Naval Flight Officer & Squadron CO (E-2C Hawkeye – 3500+ hours and 551 traps) + various and sundry other flying machines, including Whales (and night traps in Whales – I was young and stupid)
Squadrons: VAW-121, VAW-126, VAW-127 (decom), VAW-122 (decom)
* CVN navigator onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69)
* Multiple Joint/Major Staff penance duties in DC and and elsewhere (slow learner) – to include DIA, TRANSCOM and JCS, plus tours w/CNAL and OPNAV staffs
Now flying a desk but doing what I can to still help (БУДЕТ наукой ракеты!) <- that should give a clue where, by the by….

You remind me of a buddy of mine, who flew RA-5Cs “downtown” back when his landing field was anchored on “Yankee Station”. His sig line is : The three best things in life are… a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement. The night carrier landing during a storm is one of the few opportunities in life where you get to experience all three at the same time…”
I guess Pat “got” it

Use that funny little green button (fourth in from the right, if you’re writing a post in “Visual” view).

SJS, I just spent about 40 minutes at your blog reading “Badgers, Bucaneers, and Bears”. Great stuff. Could. Not. Stop. Reading. I started having Red Storm Rising flashbacks. YOU must have been having non-stop leemers, especially when that “fine individual” yelled “VAMPIRE!”. You know, I’ve read a lot of the military fiction : Coonts, Clancy, Bond, Coyle, Herman, Tillman, etc. You and Lex both could do quite well working as writers full-time. You have a different style than Lex….but every bit as good.
Thanks for an enjoyable 40 minutes!
BTW, looked for a contact link at your blog (which I will spend a great bit of time at in the next week or so, good stuff) and didn’t find one.
Mine is shipfitterATcomcast.net

Thanks Byron and glad you enjoyed — there’s more to come as I am only half-way through the story of 160992 (woven around a mid-winter Iceland deployment) and another about chasing druggies through Central/South America with the Seabats and Steeljaws. Have a change in direction as well planned for Flightdeck Friday this week I hope all will enjoy (especially our RN cousins – hint) and am also working on an article about the last deployment of the FDR where Harriers were mixed in with fixed wing ops. Lots of irons in the fire I suppose you could say (along with commentary on missile/space/arms control related issues)
Re. the contact link, it’s there, just buried courtesy blogger. Will be brought to the fore shortly as I continue to overhaul the left hand frame.

Cheryl:
You’re in luck — drop me a line at steeljawscribeATgmail.com (substitute @ for the AT) and in the meantime I’ll see what I have on hand. Is he looking for the patch or the zapper and the traditional or sunset (circa 1996) variety? BTW, what years was he one of the ‘jaws?
