CVN Naming – Enough With the Politics Already
It’s time to return some sanity to the way ships are named. Why? Because the silliness is upon us once again: 111th CONGRESS 1st Session H. CON. RES. 83 Expressing the sense of Congress that a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of the Navy, either the aircraft carrier designated as CVN-79 or the aircraft carrier designated as [...]

She was one of the few women WWII vets present, [...]

As I wrote about earlier, in October, 1907, Alexander Graham Bell invited three men (one British subject, one Canadian and one American) to his estate in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, to begin working on [...]

MILBLOG over, over there…
My first contribution to the Flight Deck. I didn’t see any reference to this in the archives here, so hopefully it’s an interesting surprise to you as well. I heard about this story listening to The World’s Tech Podcast on the train today. A gent in England has been posting his grandfather’s letters from the [...]

A Piece of History
I went over to the Midway Museum early on Friday for the Vets for Freedom event and found one of the best parts of a visit to the old girl–a docent who served on Midway when she was active. And this one was an aviator. Bookmark to: Hide Sites

Reflections: “If there are enough shovels to go around…”
“…everybody’s going to make it.†– Thomas K. Jones, 1982 Counterveil vs. Countervalue… Decapitating strikes… Winning a protracted nuclear war… Nuclear calculus… These, and other topics were points of not just mere discussion, but deep, serious study and analysis in the early 1980′s by, among others, a small cohort of graduate students at the Naval [...]
