One Navy, many uniforms
Clothes make the sailor, show what they do and how they work and protect them from the elements of their jobs.
Behold members of the ”Black Gang” with stained dungarees and smelling of Bunker A. Hard, hot, dangerous work. No air conditioning in the office, here.
Up on the roof, cranials, helmets, ear protection and colored jerseys define those of a loftier persuasion. These uniforms shown above [...]

Event Six
I really liked it when this place was humming, and I’m disappointed at the scarcity of posts these days. Makes you appreciate how hard Lex works to keep us entertained.
I’m gonna try to do my part…
I started this a long time ago, after posting a story about Event Four. I have one request from those [...]

My Not-So-Little Bus Driver
Made the good choice of taking the family out to Camp Aldershot a few weeks back for their open house. Aldershot, apparently more properly known as “Land Force Atlantic Area Training Centre Aldershot”, is, they say, is a training facility for Land Force Atlantic Area of Canadian Forces Land Force Command. And to think I always [...]

When one door shuts…..
I’ve never been too fond of the expression “when one door shuts another opens.” Sometimes when one door shuts it slams in your face and takes some fingers and your self esteem with it.
Having said that, I think the expression fits my dear daughter’s present situation. “The Cat,” who is now 19, has wanted to join [...]

Another (sort of) Family Member
Yeah, I know. It’s been a while.
About 2 months ago, The Wife and I took it upon ourselves (with encouragement of our brother-in-law) to avail ourselves of a unique Annapolis opportunity.
We are sponsoring a Plebe at the Academy. The Wife and I will act as a sort of host family for our Plebe, giving them [...]

Lest We Forget
Third annual Milblog Awards. Neptunus Lex.
Don’t forget to vote.
‘Nuff said.
Update: Lex is in third place, out of only five or six nominees. He really should be doing better than this.
Hello, is anyone out there?

Ask And It Shall Be Given To You
Back in June of this year I posted as to how the death of Percy Dwight Wilson on May 9th at age 106 resulted in there now only being surviving Canadian veteran from that war. And I noted that although many Canadians felt that when John Babcock dies, he should be given a state funeral, [...]

USS George Washington
Just read the Fox News article about the fire on the Washington. Relieved the CO and XO for a $70 million dollar fire. One would have thought the sailor(s) who caused the fire would have known about the prohibition on smoking, especially where flammable liquid was stored. Some questions:
1. Why or How were such liquids permitted [...]

Lest We Forget
We had no right to win, but we did.
My wife and I will be dining-out with 250 of our close personal friends, this Saturday. A dozen or so Batttle of  Midway Vets will serve as Guests-of-Honor.
I hope you all get out to do the same.
